Re: 3L Public Defender Applications
Got an offer from West Palm Beach last year...the call back was fairly standard Why PD? Why West Palm Beach? I was given a fact pattern and asked what issues I saw. You have like 10-15 mins to write up notes (computer and paper fact pattern). After I finished, they took me to a conference room. There were about five attorneys in the room including the office head.

Re: 3L Public Defender Applications
No hypos or performance. Why PD? questions mostly, but there's nothing easy about it. Last year she personally interviewed over 100 people for 14 spots. You have 10 minutes to convince her you're worth it.Anonymous User wrote:Yo peeps, anyone have any tips for the LAS interview with Tina Luongo? Should I prepare for hypos or anything like that? Hopefully LAS will still hire for its Fall 2017 class...

Has anyone heard from Georgetown about an interview for a Prettyman/Stiller fellowship?

Yes I believe calls went out earlier this week. I received a call on Tuesday for Prettyman. Interviewing 21 people for 3 spots apparently.

Has anyone heard anything about callback interviews with Maryland OPD? I had a screener at EJW but haven't heard anything since. I'm curious where others are with them.

Re: 3L Public Defender Applications
New Jersey is doing a strange system for callbacks. They invite about 12 people to do early callback interviews with the stipulation that these people have to accept on the spot if offered the job. If someone isn't able to accept immediately, he or she will no longer be considered for the position. I've been told they're hoping to hire about 6 from the group of twelve. They may also conduct a second round of callbacks after the early round, but I don't know details about that.mazatec wrote:BUMP. Early callbacks are taking place this week and next.

Thanks for the information - didn't realize they were doing this early callback/must accept on the spot system. Do you know how many people they're looking to hire overall for next year?Anonymous User wrote:New Jersey is doing a strange system for callbacks. I'm a current NJ state court law clerk. I was told, along with a few friends who are also clerks applying there, that they won't start interviewing current clerks until after the new year. But they're actively accepting application packets, and the head PD's secretary will email you to confirm they got your stuff.Anonymous User wrote:Has anyone heard anything from New Jersey?

Do you know if this was for their 3L hiring? Or was it for their fall or spring class?Anonymous User wrote:There were some callback interviews the week before Thanksgiving.PushaC wrote:Has anyone heard anything about callback interviews with Maryland OPD? It's with their leadership team so around 6 people. Their ethical hypos are pretty easy but be prepared to perform a lot. After almost everything you do, they'll point out flaws and basically tear it apart and may critique you while you're doing something. It's tough, but you should just try to have fun with it. Also fyi, they're a theory of innocence type office, so they'll be into that for opening/closing.tclcsw1 wrote:Does anyone have any tips for a callback with Miami? Thanks

Re: 3L Public Defender Applications
Tip: don't say in your interview that you are unwilling to do a certain type of case. It sounds obvious, but in my office I've encountered a surprisingly high number of applicants who have openly stated in their interviews that they would prefer not representing certain cases or clients. That attitude is antithetical to the spirit of indigent defense, at least in my office. All those applicants were dinged. At the very least, don't admit to feeling that way in a PD interview!

Anyone who recently applied to the California offices of Santa Clara, Los Angeles, and San Diego PD, heard back yet?
Thanks!
