But I'm Mr. Pink!

Just kidding. Guess my zealous advocacy got the best of me. Apologies, comrades.

This has been an outstanding resource for JAG applicants for a period of years now. Keep it constructive. Cut out the johnson measuring and sniping over who is more right.

You're right. I've been part of JAG for 7 years. That does sound irrelevant.

I might be reading too far into your reply but it looks like you think I stated that your experience as a 27D is irrelevant in the latest selection debate. Not at all the case, just as my three + years as an AD USAF JAG are also relevant. We are able to make a number of educated inferences based on our experience and may have learned from the first hand experiences of officers involved in the selection process. That said, as I noted in my previous post, we are not the officers sitting on the selection boards; we are able to offer educated guesses and constructive advice. Not a slight against anyone, just the facts.

I have a question: I called a local JAG office to try to set up an externship (I'm a 1L and the Army doesn't have a 1L program this year). Would this be a good idea, or would it be a better idea to try to work with a judge? The job would be "volunteer legal assistant."

I volunteered (for credit) in the fall of my 2L year. It was the the point that I knew JAG was what I truly wanted, heart and soul. I also learned more there than in any of my experiences!

I just got the call from Army JAG. I was selected for Active Duty. Good luck to everyone else who applied!

Congratulations!

Now the rest of us wait to see if we were selected or if no call means that's it.

Was it JARO that called or your FSO?

Bump. Good question -- a call after 9 p.m. seems odd. Also, if JARO were making calls, I would expect others to have posted. But congrats to Bounders.

I'm guessing it was his FSO. From past posts, it seems like some individual FSOs call selectees they interviewed. If it's a JARO-only thing, then we can probably expect to hear directly soon if we were selected.

I don't have great hopes—I'm far from a perfect candidate, academically and in other respects, but I do have the desire to serve and I'll find a way to do that, whether it's as a JAG or not. I wish you all the best of luck, particularly those who have tried many boards.

I'm new to this post at least in terms of contribution. I have, however, been reading your posts these past few months as I had also put my name into the AD Army JAG hat in November. I would first like to thank all of you; your posts have been helpful and encouraging. And a special thanks to Esquire as your posts were the most comforting and beneficial.

I would also like to say that much of the conjecture over the past few pages worth of posting has been unnecessary. I am fortunate in that my FSO called me just a few hours ago to inform me that I was tapped as a future JAG. I did not join to boast; rather, I was hoping to share my stats so that they may be encouraging/revealing to those of you who have yet to hear from your FSOs.

I attend a tier III school. I am barely in the top half of my class with a 3.06 gpa. I have not done any extracurricular legal activities. Instead, I worked a fast food job and coached a local high school sports team. I was in Army ROTC for 2 years during my junior and senior years of undergrad. My FSO interview went really well and I had three great recommendations (two from professors, one from a Marine Captain). Thus, I cannot agree that the Army has become like the large legal firms. I think, in the end, what helped me most was how I conveyed to the Board, through my FSO interview and my application, that serving my country was everything to me.

I hope that this may quell some of your fears or at least give you an idea of where you stand. Supposedly, the official announcement will be made on Monday. Good luck to all of you and thanks again. Hopefully I'll be meeting some of you in the not-too-distant future.

Just saw, and very let down. Just wasted months of hoping and praying. The interview, the time and money spent getting the package together and getting transcripts and letters of recommendation and just dang. I am a little disappointed we don't even get consideration. After all that it is one thing to not get it because you didn't make the cut, but another entirely to not even be considered.

Even worse now I feel the pressure to accept other offers for summer employment that I kept on the back burner. I'd much rather be interning for the Army.

On a positive note, maybe it really will be just a short delay? My gut tells me budget cuts are going to dictate otherwise.

I just saw that, I'm bummed. Interns should be the first programs cut.

So, does everyone think that it is probably a safe bet that if we don't hear anything on Friday, chances are that we weren't selected? I'm guessing FSO's won't be making calls on Sat or Sun, then results will be posted on Monday.

If FSOs are making calls, then yes, but there's always the chance only some FSOs are making calls or that one was selected as an alternate.

The next board will be in November 2012. For people graduating this year, any thoughts on ways to improve application before then, assuming taking the bar in July?

Post on JARO:
Attention all FY 2012 Active Duty applicants to the JAG Corps:
The FY 2012 AD Board has submitted recommendations and the approved results will be posted on Monday, January 9 in this website. We appreciate everyone’s patience and understanding as this process has been very competitive and delicate. Army Strong!

Last years intern results were also delayed. Possibly for the same reason. Keep hope alive.

For those saying you would intern for free: I called the defense council at the local Air Force Base and asked if I could intern for credit this spring. He said yes. Nothing complicated there. Give it a shot.

I got the call this morning around 11. My FSO called me from Afghanistan. I am so excited! As for my stats I am at a T1 school at about the middle of the pack am in Mock Trial and had the Army JAG internship. Good luck to everyone else that you get calls soon.
