They recently posted an opening for an APD I for Lower Eastern Shore. I would've thought they'd choose someone from the people who applied for Fall Class. Just seems a little weird!
Maybe they didn't have any interest for the lower eastern shore so they are doing targeted recruitment?
Trying to think positive!

I had a panel interview the week of 6/6, but haven't heard anything since. For those who have done panels in the past, did you do multiple interviews for different offices?

I didn't think that they did multiple panel interviews. Thanks for confirming though. Do you mind saying which office you interviewed with?

Hey guys I have been a PD for just about a year now in a UBE state. My girlfriend recently started working at biglaw in NoVa and I am trying to avoid taking another bar exam. Other than PDS, what indigent defense counsel outfits are there in DC? I would prefer to continue doing criminal trial work but open to just about anything involving litigation for indigent clients.

There's a posting now specifically for Western Maryland as well.

PDS does all juvie and adult felonies, so I think there are court appointed attorneys for misdemeanors but those guys are probably the local criminal defense bar which may not be easy to break into

Yep to Borhas. For civil lit on behalf of indigent clients in DC --> Legal Aid Society of the District of Columbia. They are currently hiring staff attorneys.

I had my first interview with MD today. 4 people sat in and I sounded like an idiot. Don't lose hope just yet.

Was this a screener since it your first interview? Can you say where the interviewers were from (Balt city, county, aa county, etc)?

I guess it was a screener. The attorneys were from the eastern shore.

Oh cool. Maybe they skipped the screener for you, because with four people, that definitely sounds like a panel interview. Is that where you want to be?

Yeah, this is the quintessential "We don't know how to hire people" behavior I learned to loathe when applying to PD jobs. It's nit hard to track your applicants and communicate with them when you've decided whether they have a shot or not.

Right. At this point I'm just expecting to get a random letter some time in October saying I haven't been hired as if that isn't already abundantly clear -_-

Yea, I wouldn't mind moving out there, but honestly I'm not thinking they are calling back. I def was not expecting to walk in and have Johanna, Paul Dewolfe, and 2 other attorneys on a screener but who knows. I've heard so many stories now from people going through 3 and 4 interviews and then never hearing from them again. I also heard that the spring class was mostly laterals and no new attorneys but I have no way of confirming if that's true.
Also heard that interviews are still ongoing for fall class (again no way to confirm if true). I would hope that if start date is end of Aug, offers would be made by now, or very soon, but what do I know

I'm expecting the same. I don't understand, if you won't respond to follow-ups the least you can do is send an automated e-mail rejection to people. Hell, have an intern do it. Have a heart and put us out of our misary as soon as possible, sheesh.

This isn't my first time applying so I've learned to not take it personally anymore.... However, it's hard not to feel like submitting an application is simply a repetitive formality, with the hope that maybe one of these cycles you might fall on the right side of whatever arbitrary hiring equation they've got going on. You miss 100% of the shots you don't take though, right?

If that's what they are looking for, then why even go through this process? If true, that's disheartening.
Any communication from them at all would be helpful. At least then, I'd know for sure one way or the other!
