Good news on my saga, just found out the Marine board isn't until April. So excited. This means I'll have more than enough time to get an epic PFT score. 300 here I come!

That's horrible because April is too late to accept any other summer jobs if you get rejected.

And I agree on the summer apps. I'm applying to the Navy 1L summer internship and a shitton of judicial internships.

My CDO rep told me that some judges, particularly state court or lower rung ones, would be willing to hire me with the understanding that I would quit if accepted to the Marine JAG. She said I would just have to make it clear when interviewing. Not quite sure how much truth there is to this, though. But I think the best approach is probably to accept a summer position with an understanding employer who will let you leave if you get accepted as a Marine JAG. But I don't know how happy employers are going to be hearing that their intern is not going to show up as late as May (when you would be starting with them in just a few weeks).

I guess the other possibility is just not telling the employer you might be leaving. You may seriously piss them off, and screw over future classmates though. Then again, they likely could find SOMEONE else in this legal market. And if you got accepted as a JAG, you wouldn't be returning to the legal market in your state for at least 4 years, maybe longer, and maybe never. But I still don't think this is as good of an idea as the first one.

I don't know what I would do if I got the Navy JAG internship, then also got accepted to the Marines. *head explodes* I think the odds are pretty stacked against both of those happening, though.

I'm waiting. Was told by my interviewing SJA that we can expect to hear results as late as into February due to the increase in applications and decrease in boards/year (I hope not!). However, an AF OTS thread showed that results came out last year on December 21st. I'm hoping the same serves true for this year.

Hopeful, is this your first time applying? This is my second time. I hear we should expect to at least apply 3-4 times. Let's hope for the best...

Essien, yes this is my first board. I, too, was told that these days many can expect to apply at least 3-5 times before getting in since it's really all about timing and the Air Force's need. He recalled 1 or 2 where absolutely no one was chosen . I'm very nervous, but I know my time will come when it comes and I will just keep applying. Good luck to you- hoping we get some news in the next 3 weeks!

Yes, I am waiting too. I have a gut feeling we are going to find out late next week. Anyhow, I am not holding my breath. I hear that NAVY's acceptance rates are rough, and while my "whole person" part of the application is quite good, my GPA is terrible for JAG. It is my dream job, but I don't think I have a chance in hell.

Applied for the Fall Board too. Navy JAG would be the bee's knees. Not sure if they'll follow timelines from last year. If they do, we'll hear back today. With the 5-8% admission rate, count me officially out of the "optimistic" crowd. For those of you who get "recommended as an alternate," do not give up hope, as I have heard quite a good number of professionally recommended candidates either get cold feet, fail a medical exam, are too fat, or idiotically lie on the security clearance and get caught.

For those of you who are anxiously waiting with me for board results from any of our branches (Army JAG for me!) good luck over the next few weeks as we slowly begin to hear back. Supposedly we will hear from Army JAG by January 13th. Good luck on finals and hopefully they will help the time fly by!

Everyone always hears something different, and it's also impossible to ever know if what you hear is even true no matter who you hear it from. However, just to help ease some of the anxiety out there right now, a colleague of mine who interned with the Navy this past summer called the office he interned at a couple days ago, and he was told the Navy Fall Board is convening on December 12. If that's the case, we will not be hearing for another 2 weeks.

I'm a 2L at a T10. I applied to the Navy SP program (still waiting on results), but chose to intern at DOD this summer. I will thus be applying with no actual JAG Corps internship experience. Does anyone have any advice on how to present my willingness to serve in light of my decision to do DOD?

Question for people who have been though the process: Is it impossible for someone to do JAG with asthma? I am entering law school next year, and really want to shoot for it. I've searched online a bit and the answer seems to be no, but wondering if there is a way around it. Thx.

I'd recommend getting in touch with a rep of the branch you are interested in. I know for the USMC, asthma is a disqualifier, and it cannot be waived. I don't know on the other branches.

I don't have asthma, so I never looked into this, but I recall reading in this thread a while ago that asthma after age 13 is disqualifying, but not before age 13 for the Army. The posters on ArmyOCS.com, MarineOCS.com, AirForceOTS.com, etc. would probably have the answers for their respective branches.

I applied to the Air Force, Army, and Navy this year and have asthma. When I asked around about the condition, I was told that it's something that would require a waiver, but that it is possible to get waived. On the other hand, two Coast Guard recruiters told me "no way" and that a waiver was either impossible or very unlikely.

Thought I would pass along some info (not definite, but credible) on the AF DAP Board: Similar to the Navy board, I heard they convened yesterday. So, I guess we're in store for a 10-14 day waiting period on hearing anything from either.

The USMC PLC-Law contract for conditional enlistment provides that if you're commissioned and subsequently fail three bar exams, then you're assigned to a ground unit. I don't know about the other services.
