I didn't receive an offer for the last cycle but still haven't received a form rejection yet. Good luck to those of you for this cycle.

Re: Attorney Advisor (Trademark Examining Attorney) for USPTO
An email went out this morning, position's canceled because of the Trump hiring freeze lol.
I'll be honest I'm a little annoyed. The first time I applied to this position they asked for that custom writing sample (which I submitted) but then never scheduled an interview with me, nor even sent out an official notice I had been rejected. That felt a little rude to me. This time again I got to the writing sample phase, but the position got cancelled. I get that they can't control executive branch decisions, but also this was hardly coming out of left field. Why open the posting after the election and then ask for a writing sample in late December?

I got an email this morning regretfully informing me that the job posting had been cancelled due to the hiring freeze. There goes the months of waiting and hoping 🫠

Announcement canceled (and quite possibly a return to two years required on site in the godforsaken state of Virginia (maybe a return to interviews there too)). When the hiring freeze lifts, and the backlog gets even worse than it is now, the USPTO ought to stop wasting everyone's time. They should hire those applicants from past cycles who made it past the written statement phase and were better qualified, could have done the job better than those hired for youthful energy, smooth talking, or some other random reason--and inevitably failed the probation period for inability to apply trademark law (
) or not being able to do the work quickly and well--and wanted the job more than those who intended to and did bounce the second training was over.

Re: Attorney Advisor (Trademark Examining Attorney) for USPTO
You think they may require new hires in person? My friend is a current Trademark Examiner and i asked her if she was required to RTO she said no because of the way their union wrote the contract the executive order cannot override. I am hoping for new hires it will mean the same. I'm so bummed the announcement was cancelled. Like they def new after the election what his plans were idk why they posted the job announcement knowing they wouldn't fill the positions till after his inauguration. The process is already 6 mos long. The freeze is 90days, and who knows if they will post the position right after the freeze is lifted. I made it to the interview rounds 2 cycles ago. I was really confident in my app this time. Anyway I'm not giving up.Anonymous User wrote: ↑Wed Jan 22, 2025 6:57 pmAnnouncement canceled (and quite possibly a return to two years required on site in the godforsaken state of Virginia (maybe a return to interviews there too)). I have thought this as well. Hopefully someone at the USPTO is having the same thoughts.Anonymous User wrote: ↑Wed Jan 22, 2025 6:57 pmAnnouncement canceled (and quite possibly a return to two years required on site in the godforsaken state of Virginia (maybe a return to interviews there too)). But this time you have to commute to the VA office, right? For a year? No longer remote?

There is no promise that it's only a year. These are non-bargaining unit positions. No union=no CBA=no telework. It was way longer than a year before COVID anyway. It was two years required on campus, then telework a few days per week within a certain (close) distance from Alexandria and after that period of time, nationwide telework only if other conditions were met.Anonymous User wrote: ↑Tue Jun 24, 2025 12:14 pmBut this time you have to commute to the VA office, right? Why are they extending the deadline? I am assuming that they aren't getting enough fodder to pick from? Much fewer applications?

Submitted my application on June 15, waiting on their reply. Due to the extended deadline for application, I think the minimum qualification determination would take another week. We should be hearing from them about whether we meet the minimum qualifications by end of next week.

Anyone have updates yet? I have not heard anything, although a current examiner told me they are aiming to move very quickly through this hiring cycle. Trying to stay optimistic.

Referred emails were sent out but not sure what that means for writing sample requests or interviews. Good luck! I think there are a decent amount of spots to be filled!
