Any movement with the IRS field offices?
Haven't heard anything from neither the field offices nor the national office. Last year, I remember getting a call to interview on October 19. That was the day they moved my application from under review to referred.

This year, the change in status happened much earlier. But I think this year, the non-tax apps don't close until this week, so I would expect things to start moving then.

Has anyone heard from SEC or IRS yet regarding interviews?

I was contacted by the IRS for an interview within the last 2 weeks.
That's interesting. Which office and was it direct from IRS or through OCI at your school? I didn't think the apps closed until September 30, but I know last year through my school's OCI, I had an interview in August and then the IRS contacted me in October.

Got news from the DoT(DC office): attorneys are having a meeting tomorrow to get their callback assignments. Invites should go out shortly I guess.

Got an email today regarding my SEC Honors application, saying I was not "referred to the hiring manager" because: "By law, veterans are entitled to consideration for Federal employment before other applicants. There were sufficient veterans for this vacancy; therefore, your application was not considered."

This is not true for attorney positions, but I guess the SEC can apply veterans' preference anyway, and maybe they do so for the honors program because you're technically hired as a law clerk and not an attorney. Oh well.

Got an interview with U.S. Army Corps of Engineers through OCI. Can somebody tell me what kind of law they do (their online page is very vague) and is the process the same as with the other agencies? Thank you!
Update: received a callback. Was also told they are moving very fast this year.

I was so sad to receive this email. To make sure I'm reading the email right, the SEC is only interviewing veterans? As in, I didn't have a chance?

Wow, that's interesting that they would even say that in an email. At most USAOs, veteran preference does add a bit of weight to anyone's application but it's not by a huge amount. I support veteran preferences, but flatly not even looking at non-veterans for multiple openings does not seem to be an appropriate manner of applying the preference system.

That's how I read the email. You'd think this would be the case every year though -- like undoubtedly they end up getting a lot of applications from veterans, enough such that a non-veteran would never be considered...? This is the first I've ever heard of non-veterans actually being shut out though. Maybe they're just trying to soften the blow for us and some non-veterans actually go through lol.

Did you apply under the 3L posting? I applied under the judicial clerk/attorney post and got referred the other day without being a vet. Maybe it's different?

Would you mind sharing if you're interviewing for the DC office or a field one and if you have an engineering/science background? I screened back in early August but I'm only interested in some field offices and was told the timeline would be longer

I go to school in the South and USACE came to the OCI at my school. The interviewer was from South Atlantic Division and after the interview she sent me a list of office locations and told me to decide on my geographic preference. After that she told me I was referred for a callback with Chief Counsel in their DC HQ. She also told me that after the callback with Chief Counsel, if he likes me, he will refer me to the offices in the geographic areas I indicated as my preference (provided there is a need there for new hires) for the last round of interviews with those offices. That's it. I do not have any science/engi background nor I am a veteran.

This is odd because I received a notification yesterday that I was referred to the hiring manager for SEC honors. I am not a veteran…

Lol, this does not exactly surprise me. I would've been really surprised if that notification I got re: veterans' preference was actually reflective of how SEC was hiring. But that's USAJobs for you. Good luck in any case!

Edit: I applied under the 3L posting.

These are not attorney series (0905) postings. They are law clerk series (0904) postings, which are not exempt from preference requirements.

What division? Or was it a regional office?

I had an interview last week with IRS tax, reached out to my references, but nothing else since. How about you?

No movement from FERC, EPA (EAB clerkship), or IRS tax. I did an OCI interview for IRS tax back in September and I swear my interviewer told me that that would be the only interview I would have and the next step would be getting an offer or rejection by mid-November. It seems kind of crazy that IRS would only do one, 30-minute long interview. Was anyone else told this?

Had OCI interview back in early August. Crickets since then.
I don't actually recall whether they told me anything about the timeline so I am considering reaching out to my interviewers.

This is not accurate. Last year I had an OCI interview with IRS in August and was told the same thing. In October, I received a call from DC to schedule an interview with a panel of three people, one branch chief and two technicians.

Offers start going out—depending on the branch the first week of November. This week and next week the National Office is doing interviews. I interviewed October 17 or so last year and was formally rejected November 23.

Today I received a call from the same branch to schedule an interview for this week or next week with the offers going out around the first week of November.

Seriously? What are you waiting for?
