Legal Aid Society has offices in all five boroughs and is by far the biggest of the defenders offices. Bronx Defenders is in the Bronx. Brooklyn Defenders is in Brooklyn. Neighborhood Defenders of Harlem is in Harlem (they don't hire entry level, although they have a fellowship program). Those are the big ones in NYC. They are all independent organizations.

Yes, it is different. The legal aid society is a unionized organization that has public defender's offices in all 5 boroughs. While Giuliani was mayor of NYC, the legal aid society went on strike, which, in Giuliani's eyes, caused problems. To try to break up the legal aid society's monopoly on public defense work, smaller, independent offices were created (e.g., The Bronx Defenders, The Brooklyn Defenders Services, NY County Defenders, etc.)

Got an interview in a few weeks with the Defender Association of Philadelphia (Child Advocacy Unit). Any tips from PD pros on here? This is my dream gig. Want it so badly.

I interned there as a 3L. Great office, great people. Didn't do any juvenile work as an intern but other things have brought me into contact with Family Court in Philadelphia and it's a pretty crazy place...

Hey guys! Just wanted to bump this thread. Does anyone have any updates from LAS about final rounds, CPCS, Philly, any others? I can confirm NH is doing final rounds and Maryland is doing screeners for those not interviewed at EJW.

Philly is slooooow. You'll probably hear something in the next 2-3 weeks though, based off last year.

Hey all, long time reader but finally joined. To the OP who just posted about an interview with Defender Association of Philadelphia Child Advocacy, how long did it take between submitting the application and the interview invite? Days, 1-2 weeks? Thanks and good luck!

Not direct knowledge, but a friend recently had a panel interview with 14 people. Had to prepare opening/closing statements based on facts he got one hour before the panel.

I too have a panel interview coming up with them...and holy mother of god, that's a lot of people.

I knew their panels were large, but I'm not even going to be able to remember that many names.

I received a call for a 3rd round today, too.

Yes, this is the final round. From what I've read, I believe it's a short, informal conversation with the head of the criminal practice division.

Do you know (if t's possible to even know) what the offer rates usually are at the final round? Or perhaps any insight into whether there is still a lot of competition to be sorted through at this point?

I was also surprised to hear back this soon. They told me at my last interview that decisions wouldn't be made for the final round until the new year.

I just received a first round interview from LAS, so I'm not sure what sort of an evaluation system they're using to move through candidates (I applied late but before their deadline).
