Definitely go as a 3L, even if you don't officially get an interview and have to "table talk". All the country's major PD's offices recruit there.raekaya wrote:Checking in. I also thought I'd link to the 2014 Equal Justice Works thread since it could be relevant? I'm not sure since I've never been. Would love thoughts on whether it would be worth going as a 3L. http://www.top-law-schools.com/forums/v ... 3&t=235106

Re: 3L Public Defender Applications
I don't have any info but I'm interested as well. LAS and Legal Services NYC both had postings that they were each hiring 26 housing attorneys. That's a ton of positions and I was hoping to get an interview. Anybody heard anything about those jobs ?Anonymous User wrote:Going to post it here instead of in a new thread because people are already discussing it--has anyone heard back on LAS' Civil positions that were recently posted? Or given a timeline? Are we to presume it's the same as JRP/Criminal?

Two of my classmates got hired by Legal Services NYC a couple of weeks ago. So offers are happening.

Re: LAS---
de Blasio released his budget late last week. It's not actually official until City Council approves it, BUT last year LAS made their offers even before the executive budget was out. Hopefully this means they'll be making decisions soon for both CDP and JRP — it at least means the budget is no longer a legit excuse — but it also may mean absolutely nothing.
In conclusion: Everyone just breathe.

Re: 3L Public Defender Applications
Unclear whether anything re: the LAS budget has changed since earlier this spring, before the budget-as-excuse e-mail was sent. Seems like there's some other internal holdup or they simply don't plan on extending any more offers than they have already but are still keeping people waiting just in case?

Has anyone withdrawn their names to take other offers, or gotten LAS to make a decision (either offer or not) in light of offers from other places?

Re: 3L Public Defender Applications
Does anyone know when positions actually began in previous years? It could be that they begin at the start of the new fiscal year (July 1), and so for whatever reason they are waiting until it's closer to that date. Although of course if the budget hasn't changed, you could always extend offers and tell people that they start later. Haven't heard of anyone getting a response by mentioning another offer. They do send out rejection letters, right?

Re: 3L Public Defender Applications
Just got a rejection email from Legal Aid JRP. Very disheartening, but life must go on. Anyone else have any news from them? Congrats if you got hired or even waitlisted!

Wow, sorry to hear that. Has anyone heard positively? Worried about what that news means for everyone waiting.

MAYBE they hired those 5 people... rejected a handful... and everyone else is basically in limbo and we (those in limbo) will never know either way.Anonymous User wrote:Wow, sorry to hear that. Has anyone heard positively? Worried about what that news means for everyone waiting.

It could indeed take a while, but if they sent 5:16 a rejection this week, I doubt they would just not notify people at all.

No way to really tell since we have no idea what the cause of the holdup is.

Reallllllly does not seem like it. Plus thanks to MDW we wouldn't find out until at least the 26th now and that is a far cry from "beginning to mid-May"... Seems more like they already made offers.Anonymous User wrote:Is no news still good news??

Re: 3L Public Defender Applications
Offer letters have finally been sent out from LAS- crim division. I signed mine and sent it back last week. I met with Tina in feb and was told I would be receiving an offer letter; the hold up was based on the budget being finalized.

Re: 3L Public Defender Applications
There have been second round interviews for PRDU, don't know if offers made or subject to same hold-ups as CDP.
