Wow, CRM-AFML is already done hiring. Any other offers out?

Re: DOJ Honors Program 2019-2020
Hi! Just wondering if anyone who has been designated a finalist for EOIR-OCIJ has received an offer via phone or email. If so, what ranked location were you given? If not, anyone have any idea of when offers will be issued to finalists in EOIR-OCIJ?
Also, has anyone heard anything from CRT? I know they haven't submitted their "finalist" designations yet on AVUE, but just wondering if anyone has received a call or heard of reference checks going out.
Thanks

I had my references checked by CRT a couple of weeks ago. Anxiously waiting for Avue to list CRT finalists.anonuser1988 wrote:Hi! Some past years’ TLS threads say that CRT checked every interviewee’s references. Maybe that’s changed and they don’t anymore, but that also might be why they are taking a while to choose finalists?Anonymous User wrote:I had my references checked by CRT a couple of weeks ago. So it looks like I missed Deana's post on Wednesday that she'd posted finalists for the U.S. Trustee Program. Since I haven't received any notification, I suppose that I am not one. I'm a bit bummed out of course, but congrats to those who were selected!

Would also like to know if anyone has/when people do receive offers from OCIJ. Based on previous years, I would expect many offers to start going out the week after Thanksgiving, but there may be some offers made before the holiday.anonuser1988 wrote:Hi! Did you confirm by viewing your status on Avue? You don’t get anything “sent,” it’s a change in your application status from “selected for interview” to “finalist”Anonymous User wrote:So it looks like I missed Deana's post on Wednesday that she'd posted finalists for the U.S. Trustee Program. Re: DOJ Honors Program 2019-2020
OCIJ offers tend to take a lot longer to go out, due to numbers hired and also people turning down offers to locations they don’t like. They might start before Thanksgiving (I think most offers are after but I can’t say none come before), but they stretch out at least into January.

Re: DOJ Honors Program 2019-2020
My status still says "Selected for Interview," whereas I assume it would have changed had I been selected as a finalist. I had my hopes up because I thought the interview went really well and my references all said that they got great signs about my prospects from who they talked to. But oh well, I'll just have to tough it up and carry on with the job search! There are always factors I'll never find out about, too, like how many positions were even open at the locations I designated.Anonymous User wrote:Did you confirm by viewing your status on Avue? Is it impossible to get one of these positions if you spent both summers in biglaw? I'll be clerking after graduation, and would love to apply if there's any chance my application wouldn't go straight into the shredder.

Re: DOJ Honors Program 2019-2020
Probably not impossible - I did one summer at a firm and was hired in a previous year. For some positions, like in civil, biglaw is perfectly relevant. I think it helps if you can do non-firm stuff during the school years so you can show some kind of dedication to the public sector.

Re: DOJ Honors Program 2019-2020
Yeah I agree it's not impossible. I summered at a firm without a clerkship and just received an offer from a litigating component. But you will probably have to take on a relevant public service externship for next semester. Look into pro bono projects or short-term pro bono opportunities your school or surrounding communities offer (those are easier to use to show your commitment to public service because you don't need a lengthy background check and large time commitment before hitting the ground). Finally, look into preclerkship internships you can do while studying for the bar.Anonymous User wrote:Is it impossible to get one of these positions if you spent both summers in biglaw? You will still need something to demonstrate commitment to public service, and if you can tailor your experiences and specialize in something, that would be even more compelling. Good luck!

Thanks for raising that but yes, I had checked, and it still says "selected for interview."Anonymous User wrote:Did you confirm by viewing your status on Avue? Re: DOJ Honors Program 2019-2020
Anyone know if you can receive more than one offer? I'm designated as a finalist for two components but haven't heard anything from one of them. I'm wondering if receiving an offer for one precludes the other from extending an offer. Any insight?

You can receive more than one offer. I’ve been designated as a finalist for two components and have received offers from both.

Re: DOJ Honors Program 2019-2020
Obviously, if you do an internship as a 3L with the DOJ (main justice or U.S. Attorney) or in some other government/public interest role, it'll help. But even if you don't, it's worth applying. If you have the credentials, odds are somebody will bite. You just need to be smart about how you rank your choices and be convincing with your short answers.Anonymous User wrote:Is it impossible to get one of these positions if you spent both summers in biglaw?
