One of the best things about the AF JAG application process is that you can start from scratch each board. And to make things even better, the accessions board meets every other month. His first post was all about how he's soured on AF JAG forever, basically because of one (admittedly horrendous) interview.

Look Pellaro, I'm sorry you didn't get a fair shake last time. I know I'd be frustrated if that was me. I wrote what I wrote because I think if you really want to be a JAG you need to get back up and schedule an interview with a different SJA, not blame the entire Air Force.

Yep. Hit the nail on the head there Everlast.

I agree. I didn't read any sense of entitlement from your post. It sounds like you got interviewed by Michael Scott.

I wonder if there's a way to let the AF know about the situation or if it's even worth it.

No hard feelings there, Socal. Admittedly, I am soured because of that one interview. Like I said in subsequent posts, I don't think that my interview in any way reflects the Air Force as a whole. I might re-apply, I might not. I had very strong interviews with Army and Navy (and can apply to them again as well) so I might just go with it. I'm not sure how re-applying and re-doing the interview would work, because the letter that I received said that if I wanted my application to be reconsidered, I can request so in writing and they would automatically submit it. I'll have to inquire as to whether I can re-interview. If I can, I might...but from what the SJA said, he is the head SJA for my entire region...so I dunno how re-interviewing and having them ask "have you interviewed before? how did that go?" would go over. But, again, no hard feelings and thanks for the heads up. It's something I will look into.

My Career Services Office contacted an Alum who is an AF JAG (with all of the details minus my Sniff Test) and he said either pull the application or wait to get rejected and appeal.

I think Michael Scott is a great analogy, but a better one would be Ricky Gervais from the original Office. I think Michael would be more fun to be in a room with and make fun of straight to his face, and an interview with Ricky is more "I am astonished that he said that and my friends will be too when I tell them this incredible story," which is what happened here.

That's a wild story...really sorry you had to go through that. Definitely "The Office"-worthy. For what it's worth, the SJA who I interviewed with was a model of professionalism, and the office was a pretty tightly-run ship.

Rejection letter for October came in the mail on Friday, I'm going to re-submit for December and just get ready to play the waiting game again.

That is a truly terrible interview. As a former Airman, I can also vouch that this SJA is the very rare exception to a an otherwise professional service.

As far as reapplying goes, I think you have a larger issue with your previous drug usage. I am not an authority on the subject, but any number that can even be twisted near 50 is probably disqualifying. And, as a lawyer (or even a law student), the "he had me in a trance-like state" excuse will probably not go over well. Just my 2 cents. Good luck with reapplying or whatever direction you decide to go!

I'm really sorry you had such a terrible interview pellaro, but it made me laugh for about 15 minutes straight, so I'm not that sorry. I apologize, considering this is a serious matter of professionalism, but it sounds like you're doing OK otherwise.

Good luck then. A buddy of mine also just got the "Not Professionally Recommended." So maybe not being posted yet is a good thing.

I have to agree regarding the marijuana use. You do not have a realistic chance of being picked up with admitted drug use at that level. And if 50 is not the correct number and you agreed to it anyway, you in the courtroom may not be in the best interests of the Air Force.

"That is all. Thank you, AF JAG, for rejecting me. I am definitely NOT qualified with my moot court, clinic, trial advocacy and pro bono experience. I am definitely NOT qualified with my grades, fitness (crossfit everyday for the past 2 years), one-year paid clerkship for the Attorney General, language fluency, background in international relations and diplomacy, 5 year work history for state government and intention on putting in a solid 20 years. Lastly, I am definitely NOT qualified because if you guys hired this dude...then this is something I do not want to be a part of."

Regardless of what you think about your post, you absolutely reek of entitlement.

Same here. Guess I'll just re-apply for the next board.

I know they say that the interview is good for a whole year, but I'd like to re-interview since I think that was the weakest part of my application. Anyone know if that's possible?

From the website FAQ:

I applied before and was not selected, do I need another interview?

Applicants are only permitted one interview within three (3) years.

Thanks. I wonder if I should change anything in my application then or just re-submit as is.

I would at least give it a once over and look for even minor tweaks. Particularly the personal statement.

Me too.

I will definitely reapply and examine everything that was submitted. I'm really sad about this today. It was my first time applying so I sort of expected a rejection but it still stings. I thought I had a pretty good interview so I'm not sure where I can improve. I'll try to get another letter of recommendation (Only had 4 LORs) and tweak my personal statement to make it better. I want this more than I've wanted anything else in my life. I know how competitive it is to get in so I can't expect to get in, but I'm going to keep applying and keep hoping.

Also, I still have the Army and Air Force internship results to look forward to and I'll apply to the Navy internship when it's available in December.
