International arbitration, litigation, dispute resolution: Cleary (NY) or Covington (DC)

Post by Anonymous User » Sat Aug 03, 2024 3:46 pm

Fully recognizing that asking people online to help with this decision is a tired practice, I am nonetheless asking because I don't have other people in my life who understand BigLaw markets well. I'm interested in international arbitration/dispute resolution, international litigation, public international law. I've winnowed down my list to Cleary (NY) and Covington (DC), but don't know how to navigate seemingly conflicting rankings lists and I just don't have enough context for how the firms are seen. Would really value any insight!

They're both excellent firms. Cleary is probably ahead in terms of global business as its transactional practice is strong (being NYC led). Covington will be better in terms of regulatory, being DC led. Honestly, I think it comes down to which city you want to live in - weather, housing options, proximity to family etc. Can't really go wrong.
