1st Year and 2nd Year Summer

Hi,

I got a 3.24 GPA during my 1L fall semester. I am looking to work Big Law in Chicago in the future. I attend a T50 law school in Illinois and KJD. If I manage to increase my GPA to over 3.4 for second semester 1L year, I was wondering if I still had a chance to do Big Law (looking to work in a V50-100 firm b/c of gpa).

Also, should I wait to apply to big law firms until my second semester grades come out especially if I feel they will be better or should I apply when applications open.
