How do I prepare for January?

Post by ALCA1920 » Fri Oct 25, 2019 5:21 pm

I took the September exam (first time taking) and scored a 165. I want to retake. How should I prepare?

My score breakdown was LR: -8 RC: -5 LG:-7. LR and RC were exactly where I was PT-ing, with LR on the higher side (-7 or -6 was my standard performance in past exams), but for LG... I wouldn't miss more than 3 on any given PT. The September LG was brutal. I got LG for section 1 and I was shattered for the rest of the test.

I scored a 148 on my diagnostic sometime last November. I studied on and off, learning some LG basics here and there, reading up on optimal strategies for LR/RC, etc. but I didn't devote more time until late May/early June. By the time I got to September, I went through every published PT. I was PTing 167-173 when I took PTs 60-72, but it started going downhill when I got to the late 70's and 80's. I didn't get more than 163.

I went through the LGB and Trainer, and I had 7sage's core curriculum. I mainly relied on the CC, but I didn't find it helpful tbh. To that end, I skimmed the LGB+Trainer since I spent most of my time on the CC. I'll use those more extensively this time around. I'm also unsure of what the right method is for reviewing missed problems– after I see that I missed a problem and finally figure out how/why the right answer works, I don't know how to apply that knowledge to future problems.

So... I'm aiming for at least a 2 point increase in January. What's a good strategy to follow? Is it worth going through prep books again, or is it just down to doing more timed problems and reviewing what I missed?

Thank you!
