Best approach from now on?

Post by xuug » Tue Jul 30, 2019 8:59 am

Hi! Been studying the LSAT for 1 month and 20 days. Diagnostic was 143. Then I read the bibles and some other books to get the basics. Afterwards I took another test and scored 159.

I kept drilling and taking prep tests with the goal of scoring 160+ before the 1st month and I managed to do it. By the start of the second month I have been scoring around 165 consistently and today I hit 171. I still have 3 months and 10 days left until the exam (full-time studying).

What would you recommend me as the best approach to take while studying from now on? My goal is 175+ and it’s true that I’m still missing approx. 8/10 on my LR sections.

If you are still missing 8-10 questions on logical reasoning after reading the PowerScore Bible, you should note which question types you're missing and drill them. If you are unsure of how to drill a specific question type, you should revisit the PowerScore Bible or find a book that separates questions by type. I think LSATwiz and Blueprint have both posted about those resources on TLS.

If you are missing questions randomly (i.e. not consistently missing the same types), then you should focus on the basics of logical reasoning: identifying premises, identifying the conclusion, and identifying assumptions.

When I struggled with logical reasoning initially, I took untimed practice sections, read the questions, and attempted to answer without checking the options. During this process, I developed the ability to identify assumptions, strengths and weaknesses. These skills are tough but learnable. Moreover, they will translate directly into more correct answers, even under timed pressure.
