Popping into the music discussion to say I love Ed Sheeran and I nearly cried when I saw him at Barclays this past weekend because that’s joe emotional that performance was. That is all.

This is exactly where I am with both. I'm applying but hoping I end up at neither.littlewing67 wrote:Anyone here applying to Vandy/WUSTL? I am starting to get more interested but hesitant because of location (coming from NYC). I know ~15% of 2016 Vandy grads and ~14% of WUSTL grads ended up in NY. Just wondering if the culture/location will be super alien.
I hear Nashville is nice. I have a friend who got a full ride to Mizzou med and left after a year because of the environment, so I'm hesitant on WUSTL. If you got a waiver I'd say screw it, apply.

I live in Nashville, taking in Dec. for the first time and plan on applying to Vandy. Nashville is beautiful, Vandy has a nice campus and is located conveniently (or inconveniently) close to downtown. If it turns out you're going to Vandy, let me know; I'll send you some good coffee shop/restaurant recommendations to last you your first semester lol.chewinggum wrote:This is exactly where I am with both. ugh, might have to abandon the LSAT and go with the GRE and study for a week and get its equivalent of a 180

Nashville is beautiful and if you're never been, I think you should visit before you write it off as an option. I love Nashville, though I've only been a few times. I think that while it might be a bit more "low-key" than the location of other schools, it wouldn't be a bad place to spend three years.littlewing67 wrote:Anyone here applying to Vandy/WUSTL? As far as St. Louis... yuck. I'm applying to WUSTL anyway, though.

Applying to both, but obviously hoping for better financial outcomes at higher ranked schools. I'd be happy at either, but Nashville is AMAZING. I'd love to be there for a few years. I'm planning on focusing on IP law, so I have a golden ticket to big law, so I'm not too concerned with placement statistics (within reason)chewinggum wrote:This is exactly where I am with both. STL native here--I would say that Columbia and St. Louis (and thus WUSTL and Mizzou) are nothing alike. Mizzou has a generally fratty feel, so that may be the reason it wasn't a good fit for your friend. I'll admit that St. Louis obviously differs greatly from Chicago or NYC, but there's a ton to do here. Great food, bars, sports, tons of museums, etc. I think it's worth applying if you have a waiver!chewinggum wrote:This is exactly where I am with both. In my opinion, I wouldnt even consider the two in the same light. Maybe I am just biased and wouldnt live in St. Louis, but I feel like Vandy would be way more enjoyable being in Nashville and despite rankings and stats being in the same ballpark, Vandy's reputation goes much further (Especially in NY) comparatively speaking and really is "an Ivy of the south."Ntp73821 wrote:Nashville is beautiful and if you're never been, I think you should visit before you write it off as an option. Nashville would be great. I mean, the music scene alone makes me swoon. I'd probably fail out of law school because I'd want to go to so many concerts (not really, but still, great music scene).Rupert Pupkin wrote:

berkeley is a truly great city, i don't think there's anything like it in the entire country. even if you're not a city slicker/liberal/vegan, berkeley is worth checking outlittlewing67 wrote:Ok y'all thanks for the input. Think I'm going to apply anyways (I have fee waivers so why not), and then go visit. I am very open minded person but I know sometimes I can feel alienated since I am city slicker/liberal/vegan and would *prefer* to be in that sort of environment (looking at you berkeley), but will def not close the door on those options. I do love outdoors stuff and not spending eternity in traffic so that would be a plus.

Yeah, another native. Like was said above, Mizzou is no where near St Louis. It's in a typical college town where most people go simply because they were fans of the football team growing up. Which leads to that fratty feel they mentioned.iammrsiglesias wrote:STL native here--I would say that Columbia and St. Louis (and thus WUSTL and Mizzou) are nothing alike. WUSTL however is situated in probably the nicest (and richest) area of St Louis. So there are a lot of cultural things nearby (Forest Park for instance has a well regarded outdoor theatre where they put on musicals during the summer). It's also the fastest growing startup city in the country. So it's getting a lot younger with local businesses popping up, etc. And if you want real life experience in activism I'm sure St Louis will continue to provide law students plenty of opportunities to provide legal advice to protesters and such in the near future :p (but also )
Edit to add: Cheap cost of living!

I'm applying to both. I don't think the environment should be unrecognizable alien. These are both cities large enough to support multiple pro sports franchises, and Vandy at least is in the city proper. Duke would be more of a culture shock, I'd think. But then, I grew up in a mid-sized Southern city with only one pro franchise, so I don't really have a reference for NY beyond visiting.littlewing67 wrote:Anyone here applying to Vandy/WUSTL? I think I'm applying to Vanderbilt. I swore I'd only stay in DC or go north, but there is SO much about it that is perfect for me. I worry about the culture shift too though.littlewing67 wrote:Anyone here applying to Vandy/WUSTL? I am starting to get more interested but hesitant because of location (coming from NYC).
