June Lsat in less than 2 weeks, Help
Hey everyone, there's a little under two weeks until the June Lsat and I've been prepping with BluePrint where my score has gone up because I feel I have learned a lot. Here are a few details about my Practice tests all summed up.
1. My reading comp absolutely sucks. I'm consistently getting less than 12 right out of the 27.
2. My Logic Games section is alright (I think); I'm getting at least 15-18 right on every section of LG I do.
3. My LR has gone up from getting 19 right to consistently getting about 25 right. I am finishing within the 35 minutes given, but i'll miss random questions that are marked as easy questions while getting some of the really difficult questions of the same type correct. It's frustrating because when getting an explanation for the question, it becomes so clear and obvious.
This all still doesn't even get me to 160. I know I'm capable of getting a "good" score of the upper 160s (maybe even a 170 or 171). I was never really the studious type of child (always crammed for tests and everything the week prior so the LSAT is a new way of studying that I still feel i'm not accustomed to just yet (If this sounds like an excuse, i take full responsibility but i want to know what exactly I should do to fix it, I'm willing to learn and buckle down, I just need to know what to do)! I am registered for the June Lsat and plan to take it but what should I do to maximize these last two weeks?
Anything would help!

You're never going to break 170 missing 15 or more RC.Baylor28 wrote:Hey everyone, there's a little under two weeks until the June Lsat and I've been prepping with BluePrint where my score has gone up because I feel I have learned a lot. Here are a few details about my Practice tests all summed up.

Probably not even high 160s with that kind of RC.
You need to figure out why you're missing so many (maybe you're a slow reader, maybe you don't focus on the right stuff, etc) and fix that. Then, you need to drill LG until you go -1 or -0 every time. It's the easiest section to learn/ace, so if you're missing some points there those are freebies you're giving away.
Edit: Wait a second, are you getting 25 LR right *combined* or 25 LR right in each section?
If the former, please don't sit for an LSAT for a long time - that would mean you're missing something like 45 questions per test. That to me would indicate you need a new strategy/method altogether for study. Jumping from -45 to -10 is a huge gap.

If you're finishing the LR but still are only getting 25 total you have some major fundamental issues with the section. If it were that you were only finishing half the section but getting most questions right that would be more encouraging, because it shows that you understand some of the basics.Baylor28 wrote:Hey everyone, there's a little under two weeks until the June Lsat and I've been prepping with BluePrint where my score has gone up because I feel I have learned a lot. Stop taking and wasting PTs while you clearly have no idea what's going on.

Im assuming OP meant 25 LR correct per section not 25 correct for the 2 LR sections combined, but I could be mistaken.Slippin' Jimmy wrote:If you're finishing the LR but still are only getting 25 total you have some major fundamental issues with the section. If my assumption is correct, then there is some hope for OP. First off Id highly recommend either not taking the June test or at least retaking in September or December. Id start with LG if I were you because, as many on here will tell you, LG is learnable and you can get that section down to between -1 and -3 consistently. After that Id really focus on RC. RC is tough to make improvements in, but if you are already nearly perfect in LR and LG, you wont really have to be anywhere near perfect in RC to score in the high 160s. Even if you were able to get your RC score to -10 you'd end up with a very respectable score.
On the other hand, if you're only getting 25 out of 50 LR questions right you're in big trouble, and should probably consider not taking the LSAT at all.

Re: June Lsat in less than 2 weeks, Help
I mainly made the assumption that it was total LR and not per section based on his super low RC score. RC is definitely different and most would say more difficult than LR but if you can't even get half right in RC I seriously doubt you'd be able to be perfect in LR as there is considerable overlap in skills tested between the 2 sections.MercW07 wrote:Im assuming OP meant 25 LR correct per section not 25 correct for the 2 LR sections combined, but I could be mistaken.Slippin' Jimmy wrote:If you're finishing the LR but still are only getting 25 total you have some major fundamental issues with the section. Now I could be completely wrong but I'd be shocked if someone could bomb RC that badly while displaying mastery over LR.

This. OP I know you don't want to hear this but you should probably postpone till September. The guys and girls of the September thread can help. Confirmed 25 LR *total* via PM. OP has a lot of work to do. They should postpone at least until September (maybe December).MercW07 wrote:Yeah I was thinking that as I was writing my response, but I gave OP the benefit of the doubt and tried to offer some advice regardless.Slippin' Jimmy wrote:I mainly made the assumption that it was total LR and not per section based on his super low RC score. Don't take June. Get study materials from Powerscore, Manhattan, 7sage. Get a bunch of practice tests. Study your ass off. Ask questions here.

Re: June Lsat in less than 2 weeks, Help
Thank you all for your help! so when I went back after posting this I noticed that every question I didn't get to, I just marked C for the lack of time. So earlier when I said I said that I had finished the section, I didn't realize it was because I had been guessing on the ones that I didn't get to. After evaluating that and seeing which ones I guessed on, I see that I scored a 152 now by getting 20/22 LG, 25/50 LR, and 15/27 RC.
But the only section I was actually able to complete was Logic games (guessing on 1 of the 2 that I missed).
I guessed on about 15/50 LR questions because I didn't have enough time and of those 15 that I guessed on, I luckily got 3 correct.
I only finished 3 passages and didn't get to the 4th one at all for which I just bubbled C.

Whenever I take an actual PT, I don't record any blind guesses (different from educated guesses where I can eliminate at least some ACs or have some idea, blind guesses are random ones due to lack of time) because this doesn't represent what your true ability is, which is what your PTs are supposed to do. While you might get some right on an actual test, don't count on luck.Baylor28 wrote:Thank you all for your help! so when I went back after posting this I noticed that every question I didn't get to, I just marked C for the lack of time. I disagree a bit Jimmy. I think there is some merit to practicing bubbling in your ACOTD and moving on, otherwise you may forget to do it on test day. However, you need to clearly mark something else on your sheet next to it or in your test book so you know you skipped it. Those need to be reviewed even if your ACOTD worked out.Slippin' Jimmy wrote:Whenever I take an actual PT, I don't record any blind guesses (different from educated guesses where I can eliminate at least some ACs or have some idea, blind guesses are random ones due to lack of time) because this doesn't represent what your true ability is, which is what your PTs are supposed to do. This is actually great advice, puts you in the habit of answering everything but without messing up your true score.Walliums wrote:I disagree a bit Jimmy. Focus on taking practice tests at this point and carefully reviewing the questions you got wrong. If you can't figure it out on your own, there are online (free!) sources for explanations, like Manhattan LSAT's video series for logic games on YouTube and the free Powerscore forum for LR / RC questions: https://forum.powerscore.com/lsat/viewt ... 521#p35521
Also, I was able to save $$ by borrowing prep books from the library. Even mid-summer there are a bunch available -- that's the case in Portland, anyway!
Good luck and keep studying!!

I disagree with this. IMHO you don't learn the fundamentals by taking full tests, you do it by following a good program and drilling questions by type. He/She should purchase a 7sage course and The LSAT Trainer. I know Powerscore is wildly popular but I found it left a lot to be desired and it just wasn't for me. Manhattan I've heard is excellent, but a bit more advanced than where you are at right now.MaryKayConvention wrote:Focus on taking practice tests at this point and carefully reviewing the questions you got wrong. Not sure where you're trying to go but sounds like you might not be ready for the June test. Are you looking at everything you missed and identifying the question type to see what you need to work on?
What are you getting on your Blind Reviews of the tests? That's going to be key to determining if this is a fundamental issue where you're just not getting it or a speed issue where you're accurate but not getting through all the questions.
If you're only getting 25 LR right total, you really need to delay if you're trying to break 160 as your goal. The 152 you're at would require at minimum 16 more questions right to get to 160.
I agree, with Slippin'Jimmy. Just taking tests isn't going to help if you don't have the fundamentals and don't understand what you're doing wrong. I started self study with the powerscore books before going with a local program and I liked their methods better. You definitely need to utilize some sort of analysis like 7sage's test scorer that will tell you what type of question it was you missed, the difficulty, and what questions you should work on getting better at the most because statistically they're going to occur more on the test for that section.

Re: June Lsat in less than 2 weeks, Help
Agree with this totally! Go through a 7Sage course, the LSAT Trainer, and the Bibles to get the basics down, then head over to PTs and see how well or poorly your lessons have translated. If OP were to continue taking PTs now it would honestly be a waste considering there are only so many (around 80) fresh PTs out there.Slippin' Jimmy wrote:I disagree with this.
