How learnable is the LSAT?
Hello everyone,
I was just wondering what everyone's experience is with studying for the LSATs. I took a diagnostic and got a 158 on it. After studying for the September LSAT, how big of a jump can I expect? AKA, is the LSAT "learnable" to the tune of 10 point improvement?
Thank you!

Very learnable. Similar diagnostic, ended 177+. The sky is the limit.

If you're taking in September, aiming for a 10 point increase is too low. A 158 is very solid, if you put in the work 170+ is extremely doable.

Totally learnable. Sadly for the world, most people don't have a lot of educational experience with formal logic or good argumentative techniques. This is weirdly good news for you because most likely these types of thinking either haven't been taught to you or have been largely glossed over. So, just by looking at several test questions and practicing the concepts a ton, you can make substantial improvement on the test merely through increased familiarity with the material. Big improvements are even more achievable if you use some sort of formalized study like a prep class or prep book.

I had the same diagnostic. I'm aiming for the September and December LSAT's so I'm in the same boat. I need probably a 172+ to give myself a shot at the lower T14's due to my lower GPA in UG a few years ago, so I'm right there with you. Lets knock em dead, it's definitely reasonable if we put in the effort.jciigoe30 wrote:Hello everyone,

You got this! I studied for about 6 months, probably not as efficiently as at least some people here because I did it while holding a full time job. Ended up with a 10 point improvement. Logic games was my worst section on the diagnostic, but also the easiest to improve. I used PowerScore books, but did not take a course.

I'll echo what al have said: It is learnable if you put in the consistent and necessary work to improve.
I recommend getting some books/course and a study schedule to follow to keep you honest and on track.
Also, if you aren't hitting the 170s by Sept, you can always take whenever you're ready... Like December.
Good luck!

Re: How learnable is the LSAT?
I agree with most responses - VERY learnable. In fact, we now know that even one's IQ isn't set in stone. You can increase your intelligence. And you can certainly increase your reasoning and reading abilities/skills! (My tutees regularly go from something in the 150s, or even the 140s, to consistently in the 160s, and sometimes higher.)
