160 diagnostic on Dec. 2010 PT, advice for 172+ in June

Post by tada77 » Mon Jan 02, 2017 7:44 pm

Hey All,
So I just took my first diagnostic. I've been studying for a couple days just by familiarizing myself with the test and reading the first 57 pages of the LSAC Superprep II. I took the first PT in it timed today, which was the December 2010 test. I got 73 correct, which it gave me a 160 for. I've now read that the "curve" on this test was relatively forgiving, due to the statistical adjustment in response to the games and reading comprehension. Anyone have any info or opinions on this? I'm seeking admission to Stanford, so i'm hoping to end up with a 172+ in June. Here were my scores:
RC:-8(19)
LR1:-7(20)
LG:-10(13)
LG2:-5(21)
The logic games are definitely my biggest challenge, but I just started approaching them a couple days ago so I'm confident I'll be able to close that gap. As for RC, I'm actually usually very strong there, these were some of the more difficult lines of questioning I've encountered on tests in that section. LR will definitely improve fast, I'm annoyed I missed that many. Anybody else take this test? My test date is June 12th, I'm doing self-study while being in school, playing rugby, and working, but taking a Blueprints course starting in April. getting The LG Bible and more tests. Any other tips? Thanks!

Looks like you mislabeled the sections here...LG is the section with 23 questions and LR is the one with 26. So it should read LG: -10 (13) and LR2: -5 (21).

You and I are in the same boat. I got the exact same diagnostic score (160 on the June '07 PT) and I am aiming for the same result (172+), although my goal is Harvard or $$$ at the University of Chicago. I am weaker in LG than you are (-13) but stronger in RC and LR (-3 and -1/-4, respectively). We should be able to help one another a lot. Come check in at the June 2017 LSAT Study Group thread like I just did. I don't feel comfortable giving you that much advice since we're both new to this, but the gurus around here should be of great assistance to us both.

I got a 160 on my diagnostic and have PT'd at 174 and consistently at 172 before. I do not have my actual score back, but I think with the right amount of work you can do 172 or even better :). That is a really good diagnostic score. I used the Powerscore Bibles for most of my studying FWIW.

Sorry, I did mislabel! It's fixed now. I'm definitely going to check in over, there, thanks for the tip. Where are you taking the June LSAT? And RC surprised me, I'll definitely read up on their reasoning because I've always been strong in that area.

No problem at all. I'm taking it in Wisconsin, I believe at a local tech college. As to your last point, reading comp is different on the LSAT than on the ACT/SAT. The passages are strictly non-fiction and the questions have to do with identifying structure and arguments more than the general reading abilities tested in other standardized tests.
