What are good college classes to take for prep?

Post by turkeyremis » Fri Dec 16, 2016 2:31 am

What classes are good? This semester I'm taking Formal Logic. Do you guys have any other ideas on what could be good?

I don't think there are any that would be beyond very marginally helpful, or anywhere near as helpful as time spent studying LSAT material. Also took formal logic during UG, the summer before the LSAT - a good class, but not too helpful for LSAT prep beyond some overlap at the very basic level. All I can think of is maybe classes that are reading heavy, so you're forced to read on a regular basis (for RC.)

Gpa boosters... That way you are less stressed about having to absolutely destroy the LSAT to get into a great school.

Probably not helpful if you're awful in the field of mathematics, but a course in discrete math or combinatorics would be excellent.

Both are proof driven topics that require you to have 'showable' supporting steps for all your conclusions - so they force you to develop the critical thinking/reasoning skills necessary for success on the LSAT. Combinatorics is also often full of number 'games' that I believe helped me significantly on LG (on my cold start for LSAT prep I was already at -4).

There aren't any...focus on keeping your GPA up and doing well on the LSAT.

But I hear organic chemistry 2 is helpful for science passages.

yeah, aside from maybe that logic class' basic stuff, there's really no class that will help you with the LSAT. just take classes you like and can get the best grades in. if you don't already, then start reading a lot as well. your experience with being focused while reading will be helpful for the LSAT.

Not helpful your GPA. though.

OChem is the one C on my record.

Not bitter.

Honestly, having a background in science really did help with those passages, didn't have to guess about the meanings for many things. Just had to make sure I removed any pre-existing knowledge about an argument being made so I could focus only on the passage and not what I really think about the topic.

I mean, I agree with everyone that this is a poor way to prep. However, if you WANT to take classes, here are some that helped me

-Argumentation/Debate. Was a good intro to LR.

-Symbolic Logic. Was a good intro to LG.

-Any class requiring TONS of reading. Something in the social sciences or English. Helps to deal with material in RC that you don't care about.
