Starting a new job a week before the LSAT?
Think it matters at all/has any effect on my test score?
I received an offer from a very cool company I'd like to work for; while that means I won't be able to study very much, if at all, during the week prior to the test, I figure that I've already put over a year of studying into this. Already have a 169 first score, and am now looking to get just a few more points (which I figure I can get by not freaking out like last time haha). Plus I'll still be unemployed for the next month or so, which leaves a lot of time to study, and I doubt I would do a lot of studying in the last week anyways.
In short, I'm seeking affirmation for my decision lol.

I would take the job. My last week was basically just a little resting and some basic review (scored a 173). Like you've said, you'll have already put in the work by then. You'll still have time to do enough review before the test and you don't want to pass up what sounds like a great opportunity. Good luck!

Yeah, take it! That one week isn't going to hurt your potential, especially if you've been studying for that long. Just do some sections and say, one preptest to stay fresh, and get plenty of rest. Congrats on the job!

I don't think I'll have the energy to do a full PT, but I've done most of them already (I'm actually doing almost only PT retakes at this point lol). I figured I'd do a test day warmup each day before work just to keep the LSAT humming in my brain's background.Blueprint Mithun wrote:RamTitan wrote:Think it matters at all/has any effect on my test score?

I would definitely take it and just be mindful about maybe not staying out too late with coworkers that week. But besides that I say go for it, having something new to focus on may actually help you keep calm!

That's what I'm thinking haha. Last time I really let my nerves get to me, so I'm thinking the job will be a healthy distraction.galadriel3019 wrote:I would definitely take it and just be mindful about maybe not staying out too late with coworkers that week. I mean is this a "You must take the job exactly during this week or forfeit the opportunity entirely" type of situation? If so, then yes I'd do it, but at the very least say you're unavailable that Thursday+Friday.RamTitan wrote:Think it matters at all/has any effect on my test score?

Otherwise, I'd either tell them I need to start the following week for some bs reason. Church retreat, feeding the hungry, your mom is getting married, idk some bs. You're a lawyer in the making so shouldn't be hard.
Either way I'd take the job, I just woulda tried

I pushed hard (originally wanted me to start after labor day), and they said this was the best they could do, so I went with it.MyNameIsntJames wrote:I mean is this a "You must take the job exactly during this week or forfeit the opportunity entirely" type of situation? True. Guess that's tough bones. You'll have to maximize these couple weeks in the interim. I would really swing for the fences on getting that Friday off though. You're probably already gonna be in over drive study mode by that point, last thing you want is to be burnt out from working 40 hours on top of LSATing your brain to death.RamTitan wrote:I pushed hard (originally wanted me to start after labor day), and they said this was the best they could do, so I went with it.MyNameIsntJames wrote:I mean is this a "You must take the job exactly during this week or forfeit the opportunity entirely" type of situation? I think I'll try. I was initially afraid of doing this since I felt like they were already nice for pushing back my start date and didn't want to rock the boat too much, but I think I need to do a better job sticking up for myself in general.MyNameIsntJames wrote:True.
