Mauve Dinosaur Game, what makes it difficult?

Post by dontsaywhatyoumean » Sat Aug 20, 2016 11:21 pm

For those that found this game difficult, what was it that made it difficult for you?

I finished it in 7 minutes with no incorrect answers, and I really don't see it. On the other hand, something like the CD game (I think it may be this one), I can understand. Just very, very time consuming, but not "hard" beyond that (although obviously a definition of "hard" can just be time taken, as there is a time limit on the actual test).

There are other games with as many or more variables. No set up was required (which could make it easier or harder I suppose, edit: by set up I mean a game board with tons of inferences. I only had R/S, and MM.). I didn't use one, and only saw 7Sage's after I had done the game. I didn't write any additional inferences at the start, and only made obvious ones that came about as the questions appeared. Only the 2nd question took me some time (I started getting worried at this point because of what I had heard about this game).

It seemed to me as if the game board was very restricted by the options given to you in the questions.

I found a few of the games on PT's around this one to be harder.

EDIT, I am also not an LG master. I'm going -3/-4 at the moment.

I remember struggling with it when I first encountered it. The elimination question gave me a bunch of trouble, which was something that had never happened before, so that threw me off. Several of the questions are best approached by thinking about what can't go in a certain spot, and what options you have left. From my experience teaching, that's something that takes a while for students to internalize. Also, it's an In/Out game with an extra row/property (color) to deal with, which is uncommon.

Rofl, I struggled more with that one than I typically do on elimination questions, but because I didn't remember that "S" had to be in. The others I had eliminated.

Stupid mistake I chalk up to being intimidated after I noticed what game it was.
