PT.35.S4.Q18

Post by Barack Obama 2.0 » Fri Aug 05, 2016 10:52 am

I got this question correct when I wrote the PT, but upon blind review I am having trouble figuring out why answer choice (E) is wrong, I don't even remember why I eliminated it so confidently beforehand.

Presumably the cause is the self-interest of the scientists.
The effect is their professional activities being directed towards career enhancement and only incidently towards the pursuit of truth.

In this instance author seems ot erroneously infer that career enhancement is in their self interest and that there is virtually no overlap between the pursuit of truth and their self interests.

Is it incorrect because the author is inferring an effect from a cause and not the other way around as this answer choice suggests?
