PT 73 sec2 Q21

Post by cocoandcoconuts » Sat Jul 30, 2016 6:59 pm

Hi, I was wondering whether anyone could explain why E is correct.
I was not sure about E because it says more than half of the students received a grade of B-or higher, but I thought it's not nec, true because there might be other factors influenced their grades, such as test score etc. Even though some students attend all classes, they might have done poorly on exams and it might result in receiving grades lower than B-, so I thought E cannot be inferred from the stimuli, especially the part "more than half..." at least some, maybe, but more than half is too much.
Could anyone explain this question?:(

If a student received a grade lower than a B minus, then they missed at least one class session. Now take the contrapositive: If a student did not miss at least one class session, then the student did not receive a grade lower than a B minus. Most of the students who took Spanish 101 did not miss at least one class session, so most of the students who took Spanish 101 did not receive a grade lower than a B minus.

Ah thank you. I guess I missed the word "each" its kind of the same as "all"...should not have thought about in real setting too much (should have only used what is talked in the stimulus) Thanks! :)
