Should I take the LSAT in another state? Forum

Hey TLS, I've been a lurker of these forums for a long time but recently an incident has occurred and I would like your advice. So basically I was dating this girl and things were heading in the wrong direction in my opinion so I decided to end the relationship. Things got pretty heated from and pretty soon she was screaming and shouting at me and was extremely pissed off. After a while I decided to leave and here's where things get really ugly. She just so happens to be an LSAT proctor and knows that I have been studying for the LSAT. As I was walking out, she said, "I'm going to make sure that you get testing violations and never get an LSAT score. Your chances of ever getting into law school are as slim as you ever satisfying a woman.

On the drive home I didn't think too much about it though it was a little alarming. I figured she was just really upset in the heat of the moment. However, it's been a week now and she's been texting me things like "Don't even bother trying." and "You're never going to get in." Finally I decided to call her which ended up with her swearing at me and saying that she will make sure that I never get an LSAT score and went on to talk about how she's good friends with multiple other test proctors in the area and some of them have already said they were willing to help her with her "mission".

One thing to note is that although my ex doesn't know this, I did cheat on her with this girl that lives on my apartment floor and I know for a FACT she came because she screamed that it happened at the time. This gives me hope that my ex's prediction won't come true. However, I'm still worried about taking the LSAT anywhere near where I live right now because honestly this girl is kind of a psycho and I don't want to take any chances. I was planning on taking the LSAT this June but was PTing in the 167-169 range for the most part and wanted to wait until I was consistently PTing above 170 so I canceled.

I've been planning to take the LSAT in September but this whole predicament has me pretty worried about taking it at a testing location near me. Should I register for an LSAT in another state? Or is there anyway that I can report this to the LSAC? Also, if I were to take the risk of taking the LSAT here in my home state and ended up getting a testing violation, would this hold me back from getting into law school or taking the LSAT again?

Yeah I thought about that right away but here's the problem. It appears that she considered this possibility beforehand or was smart enough to avoid it because, reading through her texts, none of them give proof that they are referring to the LSAT. They are all vague phrases like "Don't even bother trying." and "You're never going to get in." but she sent them with the intent that I would know exactly what she was referring to without explicitly saying or referring to it.

It was only in-person right after the breakup call and on the phone when I called her that she said her plans to sabotage my law school preparation and unfortunately I didn't think of preparing to record the phone conversation. I'm not convinced that the LSAC will be able to do anything due to how deceptive she has been throughout this ordeal.. Is it better to just buy a plane ticket and take the LSAT in a far away state? If that's what it takes I'll do it but it's just a really big hassle and then you have to factor in things like getting a plane that gets to the state a couple days in advance to prepare for any unexpected flight delays and of course that also means paying for a few extra nights at a hotel.

At this point, she probably has test centers in all 50 states and the capital ready to set you up. Your only option now is to take the test in Guam, or American Samoa, and pray to God that her reach doesn't extend that far yet.

I was looking at the international test center locations on LSAC.org and noticed that Mexico was on the list. I live somewhat close to the border so this may be a good option, or is it not far away enough? What do you think?

Also, I would appreciate if no one quotes this post because I plan to delete my posts after this discussion and don't want my ex or her friends coming across it if they were to view TLS.

What are the odds she is your exact proctor? Pretty low. I am guessing you're okay.

Nah, if she's serious she's probably already posted his info on the proctor's forum. I'd avoid the state at a minimum. Have you considered taking it in another language OP?

OP, assuming that you're not a troll, I wouldn't stress about this. Just make sure she's not your proctor. I highly doubt that she'd be able to pull anything unless she's directly over you. The LSAT is too tightly controlled and if I'm not mistaken proctors don't get paid if there are irregularities at their administration.

So don't stress and focus on the LSAT. This is a whole lot of smoke. If she's getting in your head then she's doing all the damage she will be able to actually do.

Assuming shed be willing to sabotage you, you just need to take the lsat somewhere she won't be your proctor. There's almost no way she'd be able to enlist the help of more than one or two other proctors (it's not like there's a big proctor convention every year and she's friends with proctors all over the country...) and there's no way she'd be able to find out where you'd signed up. I kind of get the concern, but I feel like the answer is too obvious. Just make a vacation out of it! Get there a day early so you have some time to acclimate and then stay for a week. Also, don't call her again, she obviously doesn't want to talk to you, right?

it also sounds like your ex may be a witch so be sure to find someone who can ward you against her hexes.

Everyone here is looking at this the wrong way, OP. You need to sit out a cycle, become a proctor yourself under an assumed identity, be better than her, get promoted over her, and then fire her for cause with the text messages that you have sent to yourself. Then you can take the LSAT in peace.

I'm in New York and when I sat for the February 2015 exam I remember two people that were sitting for the exam knew one of the proctors and they had to be moved to a different room. I am not sure how it works in other states.

Yes, you should definitely report this to LSAC. Report to them the contents of your post here. Preferably verbatim.

You might contact LSAC and let them know the situation without getting into details. (You had a romantic relationship with a proctor that ended poorly, and the proctor has threatened to invalidate your test.) Simply ask if LSAC could 1) verify that she's not going to be a proctor at your particular testing location, and if she is, 2) that they allow you to move your testing location.

This is a mental issue, so get the reassurance you need from LSAC so it doesn't affect your performance. I think going to another state is extreme, but if you don't mind driving and paying for a hotel and it's going to put you in a good place to take the test, then it's not absurd.

You can block numbers on your phone. Do it.

in the odd chance that all this is true, it seems you may be better off registering at a different location than you planned to, may be one that is far but driveable.

no way should a proctor act in a way to target you specifically during the test, as that would be something that you could pursue with lsac. but seeing her as a proctor on test day could mess with your mental state, so i suggest may be plan for a different test center.

I was thinking of using the phrase "I know beyond a reasonable doubt" rather than "I know for a fact".

Do you think this will improve my chances of being able to take the LSAT within my own state?
