Timing / watch question
Between sections, is there enough time to reset the minute hand of your watch to the 12?

Thanks! When I PT I take a couple breaths, have some water, reset my watch and start the next section. Does that sound right?daisrt wrote:yes....just practice doing so when you PTbeenoparte125 wrote:Between sections, is there enough time to reset the minute hand of your watch to the 12?

Breaths are good, I believe test conditions is no water until break though. Some locations might be loose on that requirement, but I probably wouldn't assume it's okay. Certainly no coffee between sections.beenoparte125 wrote:Thanks! When I PT I take a couple breaths, have some water, reset my watch and start the next section. Re: Timing / watch question
You probably can't pick one up for super cheap (maybe $100-$200? not too sure), but I happened to be in the market for a new watch before the Dec 15 test and got an analog watch that has a stopwatch feature--highly recommended. That way I know exactly how many minutes/seconds I have remaining, and I can reset it by just pushing a button. It's been indispensable for me, and now I can't imagine the stress of potentially not having enough time to manually reset my watch to just the right time. Or you could get one of those specific LSAT watches, but then you won't be quiet so stylishbeenoparte125 wrote:Between sections, is there enough time to reset the minute hand of your watch to the 12?

I found it's less stressful to just stop/start mine without resetting it -- Time for S1 ends at 35, S2 at 10, S3 at 45, then reset at break and start over.

Yes, just practice.
I also bought a super cheap watch at Target and used a Sharpie to mark off 8 minute delineations on the face. That way in the LG and RC sections, I could make sure I was on pace for each game/passage. It was helpful.

I was looking for something like this yesterday. But all I could find was a stopwatch like the ones track coaches use. Where did you find a wrist watch style stop watch? Or do you mean you have one with a stopwatch feature?

What you're looking for is called a "chronograph"abcdefg1234567 wrote:forum_user wrote:You probably can't pick one up for super cheap (maybe $100-$200? not too sure), but I happened to be in the market for a new watch before the Dec 15 test and got an analog watch that has a stopwatch feature--highly recommended. I got a free version of one of these from the prep course I took, but it's definitely great to have. To answer your question, yes, you will have enough time to reset your watch between sections.

I got a diver's watch on Amazon with a rotating bezel - you still have to move the dial around, but I think it's less stressful than resetting a watch (and you don't have to worry about forgetting to push the little button back in or anything nightmarish)abcdefg1234567 wrote:forum_user wrote:You probably can't pick one up for super cheap (maybe $100-$200? not too sure), but I happened to be in the market for a new watch before the Dec 15 test and got an analog watch that has a stopwatch feature--highly recommended. Re: Timing / watch question
Which is exactly what I did last December after the break!! I'm practicing with my analog watch but would love the option of just pushing a button to reset. I'm going to try with my diving watch tomorrow and see how I like it.carasrook wrote:I got a diver's watch on Amazon with a rotating bezel - you still have to move the dial around, but I think it's less stressful than resetting a watch (and you don't have to worry about forgetting to push the little button back in or anything nightmarish)abcdefg1234567 wrote:forum_user wrote:You probably can't pick one up for super cheap (maybe $100-$200? not too sure), but I happened to be in the market for a new watch before the Dec 15 test and got an analog watch that has a stopwatch feature--highly recommended. Re: Timing / watch question
I just got a cheap watch from target with clear minute hands. I practiced for a bit before the test, resetting it and it went smoother than normal. However, I didn't push the pin in all the way during section 1, so I just had to breeze thru the section as fast as possible and go back when I finished the section!
When practicing resetting the watch, make sure you also practice checking right away to see the second hand move

Re: Timing / watch question
Isn't it likely that a clock will be in the room? I've been prepping for 6 months without a watch and have gotten pretty good at pacing and knowing if I spent too long on a question, but a clock would be nice in the case of an emergency. Don't want to start incorporating a watch into my drilling routine this late in the game.

I would not bet on there being a clock in the room, at all.etramak wrote:Isn't it likely that a clock will be in the room? Re: Timing / watch question
I found that there would be only like 30 seconds in between sections, so i could reset the minute hand but the second hand of my watch would be off by anywhere from 0-30sec in either direction

Re: Timing / watch question
I have a Casio G-Shock watch( diving watch) and its been easy and comfortable for me to use so far. There are several different types of G-Shock watches but the more expensive model like the one I have (name is slipping my mind), which i think runs for around $150-225 has a digital screen that displays your time and if you decide to lap your lap times. There may be some better options, but they are cool watches to look into
