Cold Diagnostic Test

Post by rosieposie12 » Tue Mar 29, 2016 10:53 pm

Hey everyone,
I just took my diagnostic test and got a 150. I have to say I was a little disappointed with my results as I had expected to do better. That being said, I was only able to answer 4 questions in the LG section (but I got them right). Is there hope for me to get a high score (in the 170s).

I'm also enrolled in a prep class with Kaplan. Does anyone have any experiences with Kaplan?

I used Kaplan and found some things useful. But imho other than introducing you to the basic concepts it was not worth the money. If I could take it back I would. I diagnosed at 150 and ended up with a 156 in December. I attribute the marginal increase to the fact that there were not that many proctored practice tests and a that is the key to a high score.
In January I purchased the LR and LG bibles, cambridge LR questions by type and practice tests 28-77. So far I've managed to average 164 and it a high of 167. Still plenty of room to improve as I have and average BR of 172. I feel that, echoing the advice of virtually everyone on this forum who got into a T14, becoming comfortable and confident with the lsat by taking as many practice tests as possible seems to be the best investment.

To be honest, I don't think you can get in the 170s by June. I'd take your time, drill and learn the basics over the next few months, and then use the summer and fall to take practice tests and ramp up for October.

Don't be disappointed by your diagnostic, there are PLENTY of people who had a worse diagnostic than you who have managed to pull 170+. I haven't taken any courses with Kaplan but I know some one who did and said they thought it wasn't very helpful. I had a Kaplan book as well, and personally I ended up giving up on it very quick because I didn't see it helpful at all. If you're taking in June, and just now started studying, I don't think breaking 170 will be easily done. It is definitely possible, but the likelihood of it is very slim, you need more time. Maybe think about doing some summer prep on your own as well and then taking in October. Good luck!

If LG is your worst section, that's a good sign. It's the easiest to improve on.
