It's situations like this that make this test really interesting to me. I got a 167 on pt50, and got this question right. I did think it was difficult, but while going through process of elimination I was able to understand why it had to be A. While I was able to see the logic in this question, and you were not, I'm sure there were questions that you were able to figure out, that I couldn't. So really, all we have to figure out is how to combine all of our brains on TLS into one super brain and we can all get 180swesttech wrote:I was having printer issues last night so I couldn't print off PT62, so instead I began reviewing LR Section 4 of PT50. I found Q12 to be particularly brutal. http://www.lsatqa.com ranks that question a 5/5 and I think it's a fairly good example of a question that might separate a 170+ test taker from one in the upper 160's. Has anyone else struggled with this question?

This test really is interesting. I love looking at the analytics on lsatqa after taking a test or a section. For the question I wrote about, lsatqa has the correct answer as the most popular answer with 45.1% of people selecting it. Amongst the wrong answers D was the most popular with 38.5%. Only 11.6% selected C. I hope this thread picks up. Not only is it fun to see others document their progress, it's motivating.SonicHell wrote:It's situations like this that make this test really interesting to me. I've finished the Trainer's LR and am working through Manhattan LR while also drilling the sections with cambridge's 2-38 PT packets. Anyone else drilling LR with cambridge? How's it going for you (i.e. what is frustrating what isn't)?westtech wrote: I hope this thread picks up. Not only is it fun to see others document their progress, it's motivating.

I'm drilling LR... Pretty satisfied with how I have been doing, LR is definitely my best section. However, Match the Flaws are time consuming for me. I usually get them right, but I am never 100% sure of my answer and it takes me far too long to arrive at it.MAPP wrote:I've finished the Trainer's LR and am working through Manhattan LR while also drilling the sections with cambridge's 2-38 PT packets. I am. I stopped after doing the Weaken/Strengthen questions. I wanted to go back and review the 7Sage LR curriculum before moving forward with MBT and Sufficient questions, so I haven't done them in awhile. My strategy is do the lesson, watch the videos, take notes, do the LR in sets broken up by 1/4 and then reviewing the questions. I notice a lot of patterns within the question types when I am reviewing. I hope this strategy will be helpful when I start PTing.MAPP wrote:I've finished the Trainer's LR and am working through Manhattan LR while also drilling the sections with cambridge's 2-38 PT packets. Fuck RC. What's your approach for LG's? Once you get used to them, they're easy points from there, trust me.Desiigner wrote:Games will be the reason I fail this test Whyyyy can't this test be LR and RC only lol

Re: The Official September 2016 Study Group
I need to be talked off the ledge. Finished ch.1-4 of LSAT Trainer this week. Instead of taking my first entire diagnostic I thought I would just take one section, so I picked the one I thought I would be best at, RC (I'm an English major after all). I missed almost half the questions!!! Almost threw the book off my balcony and myself with it.
So am I doomed here? How bad is missing almost half of your RC on your first diagnostic? Now I'm petrified of taking a PT. I think I'll read several more chapters and start drilling, then take my first full diagnostic. Ugh.

I think RC can sneak up on people. We all assume we're good at it since we've been doing it forever. In reality, it's 1/4 part of the test and just as hard. You're not doomed. Only doomed to study some RC strategy.O.J. wrote:I need to be talked off the ledge. Finished ch.1-4 of LSAT Trainer this week. Re: The Official September 2016 Study Group
did you time yourself? if so, that explains a lot. you probably weren't used to the timing and probably didn't pay attention to the correct things while reading. missing half the questions before you even get to the first set of RC chapters in the Trainer doesn't mean anything. don't sweat it!O.J. wrote:I need to be talked off the ledge. Thanks guys, that makes me feel a little better. Yeah, I timed myself and it really set the stage for anxiety. I know I missed some important details but haven't studied enough yet to know what they are.

In the LG chapters of the Trainer currently. I'm taking a little more time going through it just to get the basics for the games down a bit. Going to spend a lot of time on it tomorrow. Took a bit of me time for the weekend.

Re: The Official September 2016 Study Group
My RC on my first cold timed diagnostic was -7. I ran out of time on the last passage, but I got pretty much everything right on the previous passages. Missing half is a lot imo, but doesn't mean you can't improve. Once you get comfortable with the timing and read for structure you will improve. I have already picked up on a lot that I did wrong on my diagnostic just from reading the first RC section in the Trainer. Don't get bogged down in the details, read for structure!O.J. wrote:I need to be talked off the ledge. Finished ch.1-4 of LSAT Trainer this week. Re: The Official September 2016 Study Group
TBH, I'm almost not surprised that an English major could struggle with RC. IMO, it's sort of akin to the SAT reading but jacked up. The SAT punished AP English kids for reading too in depth; the LSAT punishes English majors for reading too in depth. I'd possibly focus on how to read for the LSAT. Inferences and reading in depth are usually punished. My feelings is that the RC typically tests for getting a good feeling of the overall point/structure/tone quickly. Pick out anything that sounds too poetic or too good to not hear more about but don't worry about digesting every single word.O.J. wrote:I need to be talked off the ledge. Others can chime in, but I would probably suggest avoid any answer that you think is too clever or at least consider that you may be going one step too far if that makes sense. Also, I'm not trying to foo foo the section to anyone struggling with it. It's certainly not easy.
Either way, you are far from doomed given your background. You just need to make sure that you aren't reading at too high of a level if that makes sense.

anyone else plan on doing a lot of leisure reading over the summer? my first book is gonna be Ethical Intuitionism by Michael Huemer. hoping that continuing to read a lot of philosophy and science will indirectly help me with RC!

Re: The Official September 2016 Study Group
I had planned to, but I work full time and I feel like any leisure time would be best spent studying. Why read books hoping to indirectly improve LSAT RC ability when you can just drill more RC and test more strategies? But I guess for someone with lots of leisure time, it can't hurt?proteinshake wrote:anyone else plan on doing a lot of leisure reading over the summer? my first book is gonna be Ethical Intuitionism by Michael Huemer. hoping that continuing to read a lot of philosophy and science will indirectly help me with RC!

yeah I have no obligations aside from LSAT studying so I'll have plenty of leisure time. but I also find reading a variety of subjects to help me read faster and understand material better on the LSAT. for example, reading about bioethics and science helps me on the science passages in RC, while reading arguments in a philosophy book helps me on the logical reasoning section. but I don't leisure read for the purpose of helping me on the LSAT, it's just a side benefitDesiigner wrote:I had planned to, but I work full time and I feel like any leisure time would be best spent studying.
