Retake Question

Post by engineerlawyer1000 » Wed Jan 06, 2016 2:59 pm

Hey Everyone,

I took the LSAT in October 2015, and I managed only a 165. I am considering retaking, but here is the problem: I did really badly in one of the LR sections, and the other LR section was okay. Add to this that I thought that I had done equally well, and pretty well, on both LR sections! Is this normal?

The simple answer is Yes, it is possible to do better on one section than the other. But if you are looking for maybe why you did better on one than the other you need to look at each section and the questions you missed.

Identify the question types that you missed so you know where to focus (did you miss a lot of Parallel Reasoning / Weaken, etc..)? -- Perhaps one of your weaker question types showed up more on one section than the other.
Also each question has a relative difficulty and it is possible for one section to be relatively more difficult than the other LR section

It's not unusual. But it shows that there's plenty of room for improvement. Go over all the LR questions you got wrong and track which question types you got wrong. It's important to figure out which q. types are draining points from your score. You're not going to get much out of drilling Weaken questions, for example, if you tend to get those right 95% of the time.

Once you've found your weaknesses, go back to your study materials and review your method for dealing with those question types. See if there are any steps that you've been skipping, or that you don't fully understand. Don't worry about timing, and focus on doing them thoroughly and methodically, following each step.

Getting better at the LSAT always starts with learning from your past mistakes, so don't feel disheartened. Good luck!
