Best method for drilling?

Post by AbbeyS » Tue Jan 05, 2016 6:15 pm

Hi, I'm retaking in Feb and have pretty much exhausted my reading materials. I've been taking a practice test every Saturday morning for a little over a month now. Things are going well. BUT...

I'm planning on using my Cambridge bundles to drill for the next month but idk the most effective method.

Anyone have any suggestions on how to get the most out of drilling these packets? How much per day? Etc

Thanks :D

I don't know if this is the most effective method but I'm currently drilling 4 days a week on the following schedule, and more intensive on the weekends. (FWIW I work 4 12s and get Friday's off so my Mon-Thurs schedule is pretty limited). I try to do 2-3 hours a night so about an hour of drilling + an hour of PTing and then another hour of drilling if I'm up to it.

My schedule up to the test is below.
Day 1: LG + 2 Timed Sections from a PT (first two sections of a test)
Day 2: LR + 2 Timed Sections
Day 3: RC + 2 Timed Sections
Day 4: LR + 2 Timed Sections
Day 5: Timed PT + 1 hour of drilling per section
Day 6: Timed PT + 1 hour of drilling per section
Day 7: Timed PT + 1 hour of drilling per section

My drilling depends on the section but I generally try to do the following:

RC Drilling: 7-8 sections each drill session
1 Easy Section (Diff 1 or 2) + 1 Hard Section (Diff 3 or 4) from each of the categories

LR Drilling: 40 questions per drill session (about an hour)
5 + 3 + 2 + 1 x 4. Essentially I do four categories (Weaken, Strengthen etc..) per session and try to do roughly 5 Diff 1, 3 diff 2, 2 diff 3 and 1 diff 4
My section choices typically depend on where I feel weakest from my most recent PTs

LG Drilling: 7-8 games per drill session
4 + 2 + 2 x 4. I don't drill difficulty 1 games as I don't find them particularly useful, so I typically do 4 diff 2, 2 diff 3 and 2 diff 4.

TBH I have no idea if this is a good strategy but my PTS have been going up over the last couple of weeks.
