Should I cancel?

Post by parneh » Mon Dec 07, 2015 1:37 am

So I took the December exam which was my third time taking the LSAT. I took the exam in October of 2013 and then re took it October 2015. I ended up electing to take the December exam because I scored a 157 in October when my pt average was a 161. This time around I was pting at an average of 163 to 164. I just know that December's exam didn't go well because of logic games. Logic games is always my strongest section (on the October exam I got a perfect score) but game 3 messed me up and I was rushed on game 4 and guessed on two of the questions. I also was bad in terms of timing for LR and feel like I guessed on about 6-10 questions total, and didn't have much time for the last passage of reading comp.

I know my chances of any top 30 schools are out, but what if my score is even lower then a 157? Won't a lower score a third time look bad?

On the October exam I was in the same boat- I messed up a logic game really badly and it really soured the entire exam for me. I kept reliving it and thought I did badly on everything, and nearly cancelled. When I got my score it turned out that I had actually done well on everything- except for that logic game. Don't cancel! If you took your first test in 2013, you can probably take a fourth in February.

It seems that most schools are moving towards taking the highest score. I don't know that cancelling would provide you any major benefit. Plus there's always the chance that you improved.

Don't cancel. Cancellations are for true disasters ("I had diarrhea and had to rush to the bathroom in the middle of a section and didn't finish half the section" for example). Yale is the only school I've heard of that genuinely considers anything but your highest score, and it doesn't sound like that's your goal.

Oh they've moved, especially at that level (the not-Yale level)

Most of my friends taking the test are talking about cancellation. Seriously, since they only take the highest score, cancellation policy cannot bring any benefit.
