Logic Games

Post by Outofonesmind » Sun Oct 25, 2015 12:40 am

I cannot figure out why this question is (C) any help will be appreciated:

Each of exactly three actors- Gombrich, Otto, and Raines auditions for parts on exactly two of the following days of a particular week: Wednesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday.

On each of these days at l least one of the actors auditions for parts. The order of that week's auditions must meet the following conditions:

The first day on which Otto auditions is some day before the first day on which Raines auditions.

There is at least one day on which both Gombrich and Raines auditions.

At least one of the actors auditions on both Thursday and Saturday.

1. Which one of following pairs of days CANNOT be the two days on which Otto auditions?

(A) Wednesday and Thursday

(B) Wednesday and Friday

(C) Wednesday and Saturday

(D) Thursday and Friday

(E) Thursday and Saturday

C seems fine unless I'm missing something. It can't be the right answer.

Wed: O1
Thur: R1 & G1
Fri: G2
Sat: R2 & O2

The answer is D.

If O goes THur/Fri, G1 HAS to go Wed, b/c each day needs at least 1 and R1 can't go before O1 (O1 is on Thur).

THat gives:

Wed: G1
Thur: O1
Fri: O2 and R1 (R1 must go here as there is only 1 more day, Sat, and R2 needs to go there)
Sat: R2 (see above)

In this scenario it doesnt matter where G2 goes (either Thur or Sat). It is impossible to meet the requirement that at least 1 person auditions on both Thur and Sat

Is this from an actual Prep test? If so, can you please post the PT# and Q#?
