Are there any t14 schools that really want a "why x" essay? I know Penn is big on the optional essay and Cal has a unique stance on the personal statement, but I can't get a feel for places like Columbia, NYU, Northwestern, Duke, UVA, etc. I'd appreciate some knowledge if anyone has it.

Just research the schools for something they're good at or an unusual aspect about them and try that angle.GreatBraffsby wrote:Sorry to get back on the law school topic, but I'm having a hard time finding some info.

UVA likes them from what i've heard.
Write one for Penn if you think they would YP you.

I quoted myself to add onto what I previously mentioned instead of editing. Re: The Official October Waiter's Oasis
Quick question to all of those that have attended Law School Forums: There is one that's occurring this week that I wanted to stop by and see if I could get fee waivers from on my lunch break. Are these events more for meeting and building a relationship with adcomms/people reviewing your application? Additionally, without an LSAT on file, how would one go about requesting fee waivers?

My advisor talked me into taking it for reasons I still don't completely understand (but I trusted him) and it was hell. The math department let me take that course without having taken one of the prerequisites (multidimensional math), which would have made the vector portion of the course much easier to understand. I squeaked by with a B and came out of it a stronger person in the end.oldercoldervoice wrote:Somehow I got talked into taking linear algebra this semester. Friends, I have made a grave mistake. I was planning on going for lunch, but I'm just now noticing that reps won't be available until 2:00PM - 7:00PM. May just try to cut out early and get there at 5:00PM sharp

I've done vector math before so at first it was all review for me. Crushed the first midterm. Within a week everything went to hell and now I'm not even sure what planet this math is happening on.tedofsandimas wrote:My advisor talked me into taking it for reasons I still don't completely understand (but I trusted him) and it was hell. Isn't that discriminatory against corporations?Mint-Berry_Crunch wrote:WUSTL: oh you have a pulse? The need-based waivers require a particular form to be filled out and emailed in (forms found on the schools' website). Some schools (NU, WUSTL) offer fee waivers to everyone for a limited time.
While the forum might be beneficial for other reasons, I'm not confident it would be very useful to you in acquiring fee waivers.

Re: The Official October Waiter's Oasis
Ok, so it sounds like the forums are nbd for the most part. I've fully researched all the major programs that I'm targeting and have alot of information. I don't think I would really learn much more at the forum, but is it valuable to meet the adcoms who will be attending and establish an initial rapport? Isn't that a main component of going?

Chicago market still treats WUSTL like a TTT and the STl market doesnt really hire anyone without good ties. Its a shame really, but also something that should begin to change overtime.pleadthafif wrote:So what's the deal with WUSTL? Their medians and ranking look great. Re: The Official October Waiter's Oasis
It's in Missouri. Not a lot of people want to live there, you're very far away from those great biglaw jobs on the coast, and Chicago, Northwestern, and Notre Dame probably have the prestigious midwest jobs covered already.pleadthafif wrote:So what's the deal with WUSTL? Minney? Is that U Minnesota?Mint-Berry_Crunch wrote:One of the attorneys I worked for went to Minny, and basically described it as a very strong regional school. I think that's the same thing with WUSTL. It's probably a fine school but just struggles a bit in trying to gain and has no solid job market to place in. Once you get top 20 it's pretty hard to make a huge shift up in rankings. And there is def a T14 bias, it's all about dat preftige.thatlawlkid wrote:Chicago market still treats WUSTL like a TTT and the STl market doesnt really hire anyone without good ties.
