Should I take the upcoming LSAT?

Post by logle » Fri Sep 25, 2015 11:23 am

A couple things:

I took the June LSAT and got a 140  I severely underestimated how much practice I needed and and consequently only got through half of the questions on each section.
I've been practicing at a 153 but I want a 160.
I've already paid for the October LSAT but I don't think I'll be able to get my desired score.

So, should I take it anyway since I already paid for it, see how I do, and take it again in December? Or should I just wait and take it in December?

I'm really really struggling with what to do and I'm leaning towards taking it in October and again in December (3 times total).
I contacted the law schools I'll be applying for and they both said they would only consider the highest score.

I really appreciate any advice!

I would postpone at least until December. I know it sucks to lose the money you've already put down on this test, but chances are you'd get a ~153 in October, then you'll have used up two of your three tries getting mediocre scores. I would wait until you're consistently PTing at or above 160 before retaking, otherwise there'll be a ton of pressure on you to get a good score in December.

Even if you were to have moved your test date, you'd pay $90 for that, so price shouldn't be too much of a consideration. A 153 will not get you to any schools that this forum would recommend. I was planning on taking the Oct. LSAT as well, but since I didn't get much studying I will drop and take Dec. instead (I missed date change deadline). Plus, you don't want to burn your 3 takes in a single year, much less in a 6 month period. You'd have to wait another year and a half to retake and if your scores are super low it may not get you where you want to go with the debt you are willing to take on. I'd advise dropping october and taking december. Even if it puts you slightly behind on applications, it will save you if you end up doing well.

I guess waiting until December is the best thing for me.
Thanks for the advice!
