Purchasing an LSAT watch?
Should I? Is it allowed? It's basically a watch with a 35min time limit-color coded. I've been using my cellphone as a timer up til now.

I did this and highly recommend it. It's just one less thing to worry about (and it was very helpful to me).

Re: Purchasing an LSAT watch?
I've seen some reports of the battery dying pretty quickly and certain other unreliabilities. You could buy a quality watch instead and turn the dial to 25/30 before each section.AfrocentricAsian wrote:Should I? Is it allowed? It's basically a watch with a 35min time limit-color coded. Don't think it's necessary. I just put fingernail polish dots at 8 minute increments on a regular watch and reset it after each section.

Re: Purchasing an LSAT watch?
I was a big fan of having one. I started with a watch I marked with whiteout, but then decided to purchase a watch made for the LSAT. Even if it didn't help improve my score - which it may have - the slight stress relief was worth it for me.

Re: Purchasing an LSAT watch?
I just reset my watch to :00 after each section. It takes maybe .05 seconds to move the hand 25 mins forward.

Re: Purchasing an LSAT watch?
I just ordered this watch last night because it has a rotating bezel:
http://www.amazon.com/Casio-MRW200H-1BV ... ords=watch
I'm just going to take a different color sharpie and mark the 8:45 marks on the bezel. Couldn't justify paying $30 for an LSAT watch when the reviews weren't that great.

Re: Purchasing an LSAT watch?
I picked up a mechanical watch from Target the day before the test, and reset it to 12:00 after each section. If you do this, you should make sure the watch is easy to reset and that you are comfortable doing so.AfrocentricAsian wrote:Should I? Is it allowed? I personally didn't worry about giving myself 8 minutes and 45 seconds exactly for each reading passage because I had practice enough to get my timing down, but if you rely on explicitly keeping track of your time on each passage then a LSAT watch has value.

Re: Purchasing an LSAT watch?
Considering an extra point on the LSAT can get you way more money in scholarships than the 30 dollars it costs, I think its worth it to buy it if you are even considering that it could help you. I bought one and I didn't use it much on the test, but it was nice to have it. I'd purchase one, although it did take a bit of time for mine to get delivered so I'd move fast if you want one

This subject triggers me every time it comes up. Using one of those stupid watches saves exactly zero time over a normal watch. How can a person get through 20+ years on Earth without being able to read an analog watch with a quick glance?

Re: Purchasing an LSAT watch?
I purchased one and it is actually easier to read than an analog watch if you're not resetting a regular analog watch (the watch I got is also color-coded if you're into that).
However, I will say that about a month and half before test day, i ditched it and my speed increased immensely. I can't tell you exactly why, though. Maybe a combination of not worrying about time and not looking at my watch. It's also possible using it in the beginning of my prep helped me get comfortable with time and as I went on, I didn't need to worry as much.
Main take away: There's no one formula. Try it. Use it. Use it under different conditions. Then prep without it. Different things work for different people, as cliche as that may sound.

Re: Purchasing an LSAT watch?
No. Such watches are lame and I would not be falling victim of lame stuff (and fear-inducing advertising campaigns). This feeling alone added 5 points to my LSAT.
Seriously, how hard is it to read a normal analog watch and mentally add 35 minutes when a section starts (practically, the diagonal-opposite position plus a cell)? If you practice well you should be finishing in like 30 minutes and only check your watch when there are a couple of questions remaining.

Re: Purchasing an LSAT watch?
I didn't have a watch and thought the clock in the room would be sufficient - I never had trouble with timing during my PT without a watch and didn't want to change the context within which I took the test. Sat down; couldn't see the clock. My advice is just to be safe and get a watch.

Make sure you get a good one that doesn't "TICK TICK TICK TICK." I had to throw mine away. I was so pissed.

Re: Purchasing an LSAT watch?
I used it because it was extremely easy to reset and start between sections, but the watch quality blows. I bought mine 8 weeks before I sat for the test and it broke in 5, so I dropped money for another one that broke 2 weeks after the test (gave it to a friend) so yeah the watch doesnt have a long live spand

Re: Purchasing an LSAT watch?
I just got a cheap-ish ($30) watch with a rotating bezel - just as helpful in tracking time, and I'll wear it not just for the test...
Seriously? What are you waiting for?
Now there's a charge.
