A study plan for one more year when your score is in 160s

Post by myk247 » Tue Sep 15, 2015 7:52 pm

Hi,

I've been struggling with increasing my score and losing my motivation with some burnout. My first diagnostic was cold 134, and now it is 160.

My scores have been:

23-Jun June 2002 (37) 161
24-Jun Oct 2000 (32) 161
25-Jun June 2000 (31) 162
26-Jun December 1999 (30) 161
29-Jun October 1999 (29) 161
30-Jun June 1999 (28) 163
1-Jul Dec 1998 (27) 164
2-Jul September 1998 (26) 161
3-Jul June 1998 (25) 163
31-Jul June 1997 (22) 166
17-Aug September 1996 (20) 163
25-Aug (45) 162

My section breakdown mostly looks like:
LR -11 (for two sections)/ RC -7~11 / LG -1-~4

If you have one more year and build a study plan, what would it look like?

I'm considering studying for about half a year to a year more, and really want to get 170. I was thinking of drilling sections by category again. I have been feeling almost sad and not wanting to study because of score plateau, and any advice would be really helpful and appreciated.

Thank you.

I'm eager to read the advice. So eager it hurts, as I am going to take the plunge and study up until June and sit for said exam in 2017.

Thank you.
First I would like to say congrats, the improvement you have already seen is really amazing in itself.

Second, I could not even imagine studying for this test for an entire year.

Third, my advice would be to work through the logic games bible and really master LG which it looks like you already have a good hold on it, but just to make sure. I would also recommend the Manhattan logical reasoning book I personally like it the best. As far as RC goes just read read read, Manhattan also has an RC book you might could try, my method is to take around 10 minutes on each of the first 3 passages and then skim and guess on the 4th but that puts me in that -5 to -10 range but its better than what I was before.
I couldn't imagine studying for a year also, but I started (again) in August to sit for June 2017z I figure in the preliminary, I'd study 1hr per day and get through all the lessons and familiarize myself with the foundations of each section. Once I have a solid understanding of the foundations(not necessarily getting every answer right) then I move on to drilling to solidify the foundation/ principals so I'm never confused as to how to approach a question. After that stage im going back over the lessons to make sure I understand everything and what i didn't understand before hopefully becomes clear. I then drill at a gentle pace, but timed conditions and taking prep test 2wice a month. Then by March I start the process all over but at an efficient pace. Finally by mid April im prep test taking once a week. then may 2wice a week.

It doesn't siudn too bad if you start slow a little day by day bc an hour of your day really isn't much. Also when it comes to the games (even though I can get tripped up on them) it's fun to practice them (especially when you have ur eureka moment and you want to do a bunch now that you get it!) the hour goes by soo fast and I find myself happy to have something productive to do to pass the time

please don't do that. The last thing I need is everyone or most people thinking that. Then when it comes time that i need really serious advice/guidance no one will give me the time of day, because others feel the need to throw around the word troll like candy on Halloween.

A very impressive jump. You might feel frustrated right now, but I encourage you to take a step back and look at how many gains you have already made.

I second the reading the books. I found LSAT Trainer and Manhattan LR most helpful. Go through them slowly and drill every new skill thoroughly. The nice thing about having so long is you can really take your time to master everything. I would spend lots of time with questions untimed- breaking down passages into parts, writing out premises and conclusion for LR, going through all the LGs at least three times each. When you are getting let's say 23/25 questions, then you should moved onto timed sections. When you are -3 per timed section is when I would think about moving to PTs- not before. I think you should stop taking PTs for now. They are good for practicing timing, building endurance, and getting a snapshot of your weaknesses. They aren't the way to make real gains. Anyway, I believe TLS1776 studied for a year- you might want to read his plan.
