October vs. December LSAT

Post by thebestwes » Fri Aug 14, 2015 6:44 pm

I'm thinking of waiting until December to take the LSAT as I've kind of plateaued in the low 170s on my PTs (and I know I could easily score lower than that on test day despite the fact that I generally test really well). Probably two thirds of the questions I'm missing are logic games, which I know I can improve on, so I'm reluctant to settle for a potentially lower score than I could get with a bit more time. I've been studying all summer, but with school starting back up again (I graduate in the fall) I'm not sure I'll have the time to really put in the time in the next month or two, but I'm also worried that taking in December is going to tank my chances of admission. Thoughts/similar experiences?

If you were struggling with LR or RC I'd tell you to wait until December. However, If LG is the only thing holding you back, I think you can make substantial improvements within the next 6 weeks or so. Assuming you want to apply for the upcoming cycle, postponing until December wouldn't be the best idea since you'd be under a lot more pressure since + you won't have a December retake had you taken the October exam.

For what it's worth, I improved my LG from -15 on my pretest to -0 on the real thing in about 8 weeks. I just practiced the bejesus out of it. It's really about getting your strategy down, and then getting better at applying it to new questions.

Also, don't rush for the sake of applying earlier. Top 20 schools were still accepting new applicants for this fall a couple weeks ago. Take it when you're ready.
