On retake LG improved dramatically and everything else got worse

Post by stego » Sun Jul 19, 2015 4:08 pm

I need to start gearing up for an October retake and study more properly this time. After my first take I thought I could get away with just studying logic games but that doesn't appear to be the case.

First take was December 2010.

Section 1 - RC. -1.
Section 2 - LR. -3.
Section 4 - LG. -13.
Section 5 - LR. -2.

Retake was June 2015.
Section 2 - LR. -4.
Section 3 - LG. -6.
Section 4 - RC. -5.
Section 5. - LR. -4.

I didn't study for logical reasoning or reading comprehension for either test so doing worse on it makes me feel like I've gotten stupider. :( On the logic games the first time around I left 8 questions unanswered, but on the retake I bubbled every question. Didn't get to the last game so some were guesses.

Same number wrong (19) on both tests, but my score went down from 167 to 164. The December 2010 test was 2 questions longer.

I want to review my wrong answers from Dec 2010 but I can't find the questions. Do I have to buy the test from LSAC?

I doubt you've "gotten stupider," I'm assuming that what you were comfortable with in 2010 slightly changed 5 years later. For example, I have been drilling older preptests (1-4) this weekend and have been taken aback by how little the wrong answers are disguised (in my opinion) in the LR sections. It seems to me that LSAC has sharpened the art of disguising highly attractive wrong answers in the 50s-70s preptests eons beyond the earlier tests. It is entirely possible that rather than getting less-sharp on the tests, they simply have gotten harder in different areas. I don't want to tell you exactly what to do, but why not couple your natural abilities to essentially cold-score in the high 160s with some intense studying and getting a +175? There are a wealth of resources and helpful/patient members on this site to steer you in the right direction! Good luck! :D

Thanks for the feedback!

So am I correct in assuming I have to buy the tests from LSAC to find the questions to the test?

Did you do any schooling between 2010 and 2015? I assume that in the 2015 test you are further detached from school and thus are less inclined in dealing with dense text and verbal reasoning, which is justifiably what LSAT tests for. At any rate, taking LSAT without drilling LR and RC is not a great idea.
