LG Speed, how fast can you play and get all of them correct?

Post by lillawyer2 » Tue Jul 14, 2015 4:21 pm

Of course I'm trying to up my speed, I have an average of 5-6 minutes. So I ask you guys, how fast should I aim without sacrificing accuracy? I know I could be better. I personally think much better. The LSAT can throw me a curve ball and I want to make sure that if I have one tough game I have given myself as much time as possible to conquer it.

The fastest I've seen is 3 minutes.

I guess you can answer the question by type. Some people are quicker at some times than others.

Faster than 5 minutes probably isn't necessary to go -0 on a hard LG section, but averaging 5 minutes is a big difference from averaging 6-7 minutes IMO.

Also, I personally find LG can be harder to go back and double-check, so it might be good to practice speeding up then slow back down again and not emphasize speed, but rather emphasize thoroughness and certainty on test day.

3 minutes is way faster than you would ever need. I wouldn't worry about this at all. It's not really a useful goal. It's like driving a jacked up monster truck so that you feel like you are high off the ground and can see above traffic--you might be over-compensating for some other weaknesses in your LSAT skills if you are over-focusing on this element of your prep.

5-6 min is also a lot faster than you need as an average. I think it's safe to say that the easier games can be tackled this fast after practicing to the level you're at, but I wouldn't try and go faster than that for going-faster's sake. I would just try and do a comfortable 5-7 minutes and by the end of the game be so confident in your accuracy that you KNOW you got 100%. No need to overdo it and give LSAC any freebies. Just get it to where you can finish the section and have a comfortable 5-10 min to check over things that you want to double check or whatever. Even that isn't necessary for going -0.

Also, as alluded to above, if you are this good at games, you might want to focus on improving in the other sections and just maintain where you are at with games. Are you able to do 4 RC passages in 25min? Are you getting -0 in every LR section with 5 minutes to spare? Bc if so, I want to be you lol.

My old TM instructor (doesn't work there anymore) could do entire sections perfectly in 11-13 minutes. I think he did the Dino game in under 2 minutes.

I would aim for a breakneck pace on the first two games (8-10 mins total), knowing that there probably wouldn't be anything too tricky that I would overlook. Then I had plenty of time to do the last two, so I could take my time and make sure I didn't get fooled by anything.

This was my basic strategy for every section, come to think of it.

Nope, it was just that it was my weakest section. So I became obsessed. I'm trying to do well here to have a great future. lol I have a friend who got into Harvard. This person was a beast at the exam and waited 3 years to take it. The LG was too fast I literally got dizzy and distracted when I glanced her way. So I pushed my self to be almost as fast. If 5-6 is pretty good, I'll calm down a bit and now focus on RC.

How are you even getting to 2-3 minutes ? I take 8-10 minutes for even linear games... why am I so bad!!

They don't reward you extra points for finishing too early. And you can't work on other sections. You don't want to have questions less than 100 percent sure since its hard to go back and check single questions.

Are you relying on trial and error method? Please don't. I used to, and one day I wised up and found it too time consuming.

Wait, how are you not relying on trial and error for linear games. For me many linear games don't give room for deductions. I can't make too many inferences. I don't do trial and error for all the questions, but 1-2 for the linear games. I guess I've done so many I'm quick with it.

There must be something I'm doing wrong if its too time consuming?

What do you do?

Sometimes trial and error is inevitable but in most cases proper deduction should avoid most of them. In earlier stages when I read explanations or watched videos for games I often found I missed several deductions which cost me lots of time. It got better as I practiced more.
