Experimental section on real test ?

Post by jaysan150 » Wed Jul 08, 2015 8:50 am

Someone once told me the experimental section is always given before the break . Is it true ? This person also said the last sections after the break are always graded

Technically no, exactly once the fourth section was an experimental, I believe Oct 2011. Regardless, that was an exception to the rule and I think it's safe to assume your exp will be in the first 3

It might be true--or almost always true--but if I were you, I would spend 0 time worrying about/trying to figure out which section is the experimental. It's a waste, and you want to do your best on all sections (experimental included) because you want them to be able to fairly assess and evaluate the questions for future test-takers. But yeah, it's usually one of the first 3.

The good side of knowing this though, is if anything goes wrong early on in your test, you should keep moving forward and not worry about it, because that very well could have been the experimental section (and even if it wasn't you should just salvage what you can anyways). On my test, there was an experimental LR section 1 that had a weird question that to me had 5 very wrong answers--it was question 18 lol I still remember. I couldn't move on mentally and my section 2 pacing suffered (RC) and I was pressed for time. I wish I just would have not thought about that question anymore or let it throw me off!
