3rd time taking need to improve study skills
Hey so I am planning to take the October LSAT. I took June 14 (Princeton Review Course) and June 15 (TestMasters Course) and still haven't received my ideal score, although I have made large gains. What way should I go about studying this time around? Should it be more self taught since I have engaged with a class setting twice already? I'll take any advice that you all have to offer. I plan to start studying in the next couple weeks.

Here's my advice:
In order to excel on this test you must be motivated to the point of institutional insanity. You must eat, drink and breath the damn thing everyday for a period of several months. If you want to do well then here is what you must do: if you have a girlfriend, then break up with her as she will only inhibit your relentless drive towards perfection; if you have a job, then quit as your new job will consist of soaking up the vast amount of necessary skills required for mastery; any other profession will take away from the time needed to do this; if you have any hobbies, forget about them, as your new hobby will be studying nonstop for this monstrosity of a standardized exam; if you are naturally emotionally driven, then practice punching yourself in face while absorbing unflinchingly the resulting pain, as this will prepare you for the comparable sensations you will undoubtedly experience on you journey towards virtuosity. This is what you must do.

How far are you away from your target score? You need to focus on your weak spots by doing adequate drilling bruh, that's the sure fire way to get better, and make sure you have a plan of attack for studying. Do you feel familiar with all the questions??

About 10 questions or so. My LG is great its the LR and most notably the RC. I am familiar with all the questions, I just feel as though I need more time actually practicing as the the 2 times I took the LSAT previous was only with about 5-6 weeks of studying. That's is why I'm trying to decide now which materials to use to go about it, so I can have about 3 months worth of studying.ltowns1 wrote:GreekOmega12 wrote:Hey so I am planning to take the October LSAT. I'm in a comparable position - familiar with all the questions, I know what i'm doing - i PT'd around the 172 mark, wanted 173 but got 169 on the day because I just wasn't conditioned enough, I foolishly didn't take the revision seriously enough and only really did about 4-5 weeks work for it. I've gotta agree with the above in a less dramatic fashion - live it, breathe it, consume it. My study schedule for the next 3 months is pretty rigorous, but it's essentially designed to make the LSAT second nature. A PT every day, simulated, 5 sections etc, along with absorbing any and all revision materials I can get my hands on.

I would suggest the Manhattan LR and RC It really helped my score, but I guess it also depends on your score. If you're scoring in the 160's or higher I don't know how much it would help, but usually most high scorers say if you want to reach that level you have to do studying apart from the prep course as well.GreekOmega12 wrote:About 10 questions or so. You don't think a PT everyday will drain you out? But yea I'm trying to come up with a study schedule now. How'd you develop yours?Topszn wrote:I'm in a comparable position - familiar with all the questions, I know what i'm doing - i PT'd around the 172 mark, wanted 173 but got 169 on the day because I just wasn't conditioned enough, I foolishly didn't take the revision seriously enough and only really did about 4-5 weeks work for it. Not really, starting off relaxed, not simulated or anything but getting more serious as the weeks go by, I've got pretty good stamina in terms of bookwork and things like that, but only when I can motivate myself. I've quit my job this time round as well so it's not like I'll be tired out from work or anything.GreekOmega12 wrote:You don't think a PT everyday will drain you out? Basically I gathered all the materials I'll use to revise - so a bunch of books, some online resources, and a s*** load of practice tests, worked out how many chapters of reading it is, how many tests there are etc, then just split it over my days. So I know I can do 2 chapters of a book in a day + one PT and some online stuff, so I just divided all the books and PTs etc like that. Then split the PTs into untimed, focussing on technique, to timing each section (to become aware of my speed, not necessarily to change it), to timing 2 sections back to back (getting closer to test standard), to fully simulated, 5-section tests in the run up to the exam. Hope that helps!
