Should I study for Logic Games at all?

Post by risa1600 » Mon Jun 29, 2015 12:01 pm

I have taken only a few logic games sections and I usually only get 2 or 3 wrong on the test. I am aiming for a 180 but I only have 3 months left. I was wondering if I should still bother going through the logic games book or if instead I should focus on LR and RC. I was afraid that if I go through the LG powerscore bible then I'll forget the principles I've learned from LR and RC. So should I go through LG before LR and RC, not go through it at all, or is there no harm to study it after LR and RC bibles while still retaining the principles I've learned in LR and RC?

Personally I'd still drill it. There's always a chance you could get something you haven't seen before and you'd want that practice which will bring forth familiarity just in case.

Obviously don't go crazy drilling it for hours on end, as you don't need to, but I'd keep practicing it. That's at least what I did and I was practicing at -0/-1 for LG.

Ohh okay, thanks for the advice! Do you think besides, taking practice tests and drilling it, I should bother with the powerscore book if I'm already getting perfect untimed and about two wrong timed? Or would that be a waste of valuable time I could use focusing on LG and LR?

If you're getting perfects and drilling it doesn't trip you up, I'd say not to worry wasting time reading the books. I'm not expert, but it's just not what I'd do. You can adjust if need be and you're having difficulty later on.

Are you referring to the June test?

However, my scores were released prior to 5pm each time I took it.

Agreed. I was steady -0 on timed PT games. Wasn't until the 3rd time I took the real thing that I went -0 on games.

Test day nerves are real.

I was planning on taking all 75 prep tests which I thought would be sufficient practice to score -0, but I'm scared I'll miss out on some basic LG principles. However, I feel if I'm getting -0 untimed and -1 or -2 timed, then I understand the principles, but not reading the LG bible is making me anxious since everyone keeps saying it's vital.

I don't think the LG bible is necessary for you, but I would utilize the 7sage logic games explanation videos. They're free and may help you pick up key inferences that you missed on those games that do trip you up.

OP, I can't stress enough how important it is to overtrain on LG. Given your scoring goals, I would work hard on games until you can go -0 on sections with plenty of time to spare. You really need to have that kind of mastery before the exam for upper 170s/180. Test day drop is a real thing, and the games section can be particularly bad for your score if anything goes wrong. I've had so many good games students come in and have to retake because they screwed up timing and missed 5 questions that were never normally part of their score on PTs.

Seriously don't let up on games sections until you are dominating them.

Good luck!

I heard for some people (not me unfortunately :( ) that can get so good at logic games that when they take the real thing, it is basically a 35 minute in-test break for them. Drill until you can get -0 in your sleep literally, in the worst condition possible. Especially if your shooting for a 180 you can't afford to drop any points on LG

Thank you all for your responses! I have decided not to study from PS LG bible, as it seems my study time would be much better spent reading Manhattan, PS, and Trainer for LR and RC. I will PT all 75 games and hopefully I'm hitting -0 by the very end.
