So... No Love for Vapers?

Post by ChillTomG » Mon Jun 01, 2015 5:04 pm

It looks like LSAC specifically prohibits me from bringing in electronic cigarettes into the testing room. I would imagine that I can't go to my car during the break and grab it. I detest smoking but it smoking allowed during the break?

One of my friends had this issue. Nicotine patches worked for him.

Even during the GRE I was able to access my locker and vape inside the bathroom. But is it correct that I can't even bring a vape into the facility at all?

If this is a serious concern during one of the most important days of your life then I'd hold off on LS for a few years. Get some perspective. Absolutely nothing else should be on your mind but that exam.

Not that I'm personally recommending this but have you checked out your testing location. Bathrooms, vending machines, etc? Stash your stash, puff a few during your break.

Thanks to those who gave thoughtful responses. It sounds like there is no ability to smoke or vape during the test except perhaps the sneak trick.

I am a little surprised this isn't more of an issue; anyone who regularly uses nicotine products (smokes, vapes, etc), would have a tough time going five stressful hours without it, and even more so if there is a designated break (this signals smoke break to the nicotine addict).

It's more like 3.5 hours anyway.

It's not an issue because nicotine lozenges exist. I brought a few portions of snus, not sure if it's allowed but worked for me.

Maybe for you it was, but I think I got out of my June exam around 5:45.

Careful. Electronic cigarettes are explicitly prohibited - no judgment about needing to keep your concentration up, but you may want to look into finding different methods of meeting your needs. http://www.lsac.org/jd/lsat/day-of-test

Maybe try doing a day on patches or gum.

Okay, didn't realize they were explicitly prohibited. No way am I going to risk everything for a nicotine fix. I will have to get the patch/lozenges prescribed even if it only for a day.

Use a patch as back up

Hide the e-cig in yer pants or somewhere and just sneak it inside a bathroom stall.

Forbidding people from smoking is fucking ridiculous if you intend on keeping them locked up in a building for 5 hours.

I totally support your right to smoke if you wish. That said, expecting people to bend over backward to accommodate your habit is ridiculous, especially when you can gum/patch.

Letting people outside for a 10 minute smoke break is not bending over backwards.

If the rule is that you can't leave the premises, ostensibly to prevent cheating, than it is. Would someone have to supervise them? If so, that is a burden.

Lol look at life coach over here. Nicotine withdrawals can have a serious effect on your concentration. I'm pretty sure he's not concerned about it for recreational purposes; this is almost certainly one of his concerns about scoring well on the exam.
Withdraw lasts like a week or two.

A burden to stand outside and watch/join in with people smoking...why, that's a new definition of "burden" if I've ever heard one.

Seriously? What are you waiting for?
