LSAT score increase?

Post by billybevans » Wed Mar 25, 2015 12:12 am

Asked this in a different forum but re-posting here. I took the LSAT cold turkey in February. Does anyone know how much of a score increase I can expect if I study?

Study hard and sky's the limit.

Somewhere between zero and sixty points.

But seriously OP, it depends what you scored on your FEB score. Probably wasn't a good idea to take it cold turkey...

Just read your other post, but no--10 points is not too ambitious if you diligently study.

Well a 161 cold is pretty damn good. 170+ if you study.

170+ is not too ambitious. Get studying and use the Cambridge packets for drilling concepts.

Think a LSAC employee would accumulate 2300+ posts on an online forum just to rack up business?

Honestly though, no one can answer this question. Not with your starting score at least. The best I can say is plenty of people have improved that much.

obvious troll. no way that someone with the ability to get a 161 RAW would not research the test or take a diagnostic, etc.

Maybe he means that he studied for months, but then quit sniffing glue cold turkey the morning of the test.

My sister-in-law did this - took LSAT cold and got low 160's. Got a full ride to Drexel. Worked out for her but can't recommend it to anyone else.

To each their own. A bit odd that they payed out for the test but now balks a bit at paying for it again. This is also a bit of an intersection of real-world and institutionalized student intelligence types.

This is a bit of an intersection between those who understand a joke and those who take themselves too seriously

Assuming you're serious, 10 points from a 161 cold is going to be a very easy ride compared to what many people do and/or attempt to do on this site.

People on this site have improved >30 points from their cold diagnostic by studying hard enough, long enough, and the right way. Soak in the wisdom here, get motivated, and ask a lot of questions. The prep community is strong and very willing to help.

You might have mentioned this already, but when are you planning to retake? You should give yourself at least 3 months of proper study, even with that high score. And yes, 161 is high for a cold test. You're not starting with any disadvantage, but you should still expect those 10 points to be very hard to come by. You'll have to work for it.

Went from a 156 diagnostic to 161 then 171. It's possible I got a bit lucky, but I think a lot of it was getting ready for test day; plus some stuff I couldn't control (my first test was held on game day and the parking lots I had scoped out were closed for tailgating).

I was planning on June for a retake. I am a reporter and likely will be tied up covering a fairly high profile trial next fall, so worried that any of those dates will be a nightmare for me.

I had a 22 point increase from my diagnostic. Went from low 150s to mid 170s.

I don't think there's a right way to do it. You have to know yourself and know your study habits.

While I did not go in completely cold, I went in with ~2 full tests under my belt. If I had not gotten sick the day of the examination I likely would have walked away with that being my only attempt.

Seriously? What are you waiting for?
