Read Stimulus or Question first?

Post by economicsnme » Fri Oct 17, 2014 11:57 am

I am getting conflicting information about whether to read the stimulus first or to read the question first. I have read other places on this forum about all the top scorers reading the stimulus then proceeding to the questions.

I was hoping i can kind of get a rough estimate of people on this forum who prefer one or the other.

Question first, no doubt. You need to know what you're looking for when you read the stimulus.

For LR at least, I think once you get enough experience with question types, you start to immediately recognize the structure/strengths/weaknesses of the arguments while you read the stimulus.

Those strengths and weaknesses are usually what the question is asking you to state in your answer choice.

As such, I don't see any reason to try and read the question first. Everything you need to know about the question is in the stimulus.

This sounds like a troll answer.

I've tried both. I firmly believe in reading the question first. It focuses my reading of the stimulus and as a result I rarely have to read a stimulus twice. I am consistently -0, -1 or -2, with plenty of time to spare.

My personal preference is Question->Stimulus.

I started off my studying by going Stimulus->Question however.

Thanks all for your response.

Looks like question before stimulus is winning out.

That 3 of 5 TLSers prefer q->stim does not mean it wins out. Try both.
