Completely foolproof way of mastering LGs?
Hey,
I have drilled LRs and RCs sufficiently to get -1 or -0 every single time. LGs are my weakness even after extensive practice.
Materials:
LSAT Trainer
LG Bible (I don't like their methods of diagramming)
LSATs 1-72.
I have done almost every single game with 7sage explanations. Still had to cancel my score today because
I was completely paralyzed while attempting the LG section. (I was aiming for a 175).
What should I do?
Drilling by type? Doing every single game over and over again? Solving rubik's cubes? I can solve In/Out games, Sequencing and Ordering games in under 7 minutes, but completely freeze when attempting matching/grouping/hybrid games, even though I have drilled them extensively.

Obviously you haven't drilled enough to be confident or haven't drilled effectively enough to really sharpen your instincts.
My process:
My process:
This seems similar to what you said you did. However, I suspect there's an issue when it comes to your follow through. Drilling a single game involves doing it on multiple days.How to Drill Logic Games
Buy this Cambridge LG Book.
Make multiple copies of each game.
Do a game.
Watch the 7 Sage Explanation for that game.
Get a fresh copy of that game and do it again, incorporating what you learned.
Watch the video again if needed.
Move onto the next game and repeat the process.
Do the games you did again the next day and see if you remember how to set them up and solve them. If not, watch the video again.
It's a tedious process, but you're guaranteed to improve by drilling like this. Similar inferences can be made across all games and you are able to make them correctly and quickly the more experience you get.

Hey thanks for your reply. I pretty much did that. Attempted a game, watched explanation, attempted game again.
I also drilled by type.
Should I just keep doing that until December? Or should I read more theory (LG Bible/Trainer a second time)? Completely clueless/disappointed because I screwed up an otherwise perfect LSAT due to the LG section and had to cancel.

It's worth it to go back and reread the chapters in the bible regarding complex game set ups.
And then keep drilling. Also keep watching 7Sage. Find out what works best for you. I love how JY on 7Sage does in-out games with subcategories, for instance. However, I split my game boards up more often than JY does because I really need to have competing visuals when tackling the questions.
Some games are rule-driven games where there aren't inferences and deductions to be made up front. For these games, you should get to the questions quickly. Other games rely on big inferences that should be made up front. The more games you do, the better your intuition becomes.
Also, it won't hurt to continue working on the games you're good at. A big part of my game strategy is doing the easy games very quickly and allowing myself more time on the later games. Here is an example I posted awhile ago in the December Study Group:

Your awesome averages for LR and RC show me that you're a very capable test taker. Just work on building your LG skills and confidence. 70 days is more than enough time to become a master at games. GOODLUCK!Dirigo wrote:Just did all of PT24 LG for kicks:
Didn't miss any questions.
Timing:
G1 = 4:20
G2 = 3:52
G3 = 13:04 (ouch!)
G4 = 8:22
Total = 29:42

Same thing happened to me. I thought the first LG was divine intervention, but then got hit with the second LG and was destroyed.

You're welcome. Take the week off to give yourself a break. Go outside and enjoy things you've missed out on these past several months. Then start studying again with a fresh attitude and renewed optimism.Skywalker001 wrote:Thanks, Dirigo.

You might also want to try Manhattan's LG. I also wasn't a fan of the Bible, and after going through half of Manhattan I already feel like I've broken down whatever barriers were keeping me from LG success.

I'm noticing a trend with my LG prep too....when it's noisy or I'm a little tired I fall apart. It's like when I go to the gym on the weekend with 9 hours sleep, in the afternoon or whenever I stumble out of my house. I'm always stronger then when I go before work at 7 am on two hours less sleep.

Thanks for the useful information. I have a few questions myself regarding your method: JY mentioned in a video that you should do it the next day (and then the next day, etc.) -- once you achieve the control he explained every subsequent day you try it, how do you proceed? Do you have a methodology for revisiting games later on (say days or weeks later)?Dirigo wrote:Obviously you haven't drilled enough to be confident or haven't drilled effectively enough to really sharpen your instincts.

Also, why Vol. 2 over 3? Is this to save 41-60 for PTing?
