Are practice test scores adequate gauges of test-day scores?

Post by The Avatar » Wed Sep 24, 2014 1:06 pm

My PT average is high 160's (timed with scan-tron). I just did PT 71 and got a 168 doing best on my worst section RC, while scoring lower than normal on LR. 5 of my incorrect answers for LR appear to be strengthen/weaken questions.

I think the general consensus on here is to expect a 2-3 point drop on test day due to nerves/other test day conditions. Of course it could be lower than that, the same, or even higher if you are having a great test day!

Everyone says expect a drop...I think that correlates to how much prep you've done. I took probably 50-60 pretests (some of them multiple times) and my actual score was very close to my PT average. After that much prep, the whole process was very mechanical and test day factors didn't shake me up much.

Someone who's taken 10 or fewer PTs can probably expect a drop for sure.

Not saying it's a hard and fast rule that more prep=less drop on test day, but neither is the drop itself.
