PowerScore LSAT prep
So, I took the practice LSAT this past weekend and received a 151 (It's a raw score(no studying)). Being that my goal score is 170, I have alot of work to do. Did anybody use PowerScore for their LSAT prep? What are your opinions on it? I am getting the set and workbooks?
I can not really afford nor do I have time for a class at the moment.

You don't need the course so don't sweat. Bibles are very helpful. Just make sure you are drilling a lot while learning. If you have a basic grasp of the fundamentals you should be able to crack the 160's. 170 will be a ton of work, but it's totally doable if you have enough time.

Re: PowerScore LSAT prep
I was sitting at same score after reading the PS bibles and took the online course. More than anything it was just the pace and requirements to do your homework or "fall behind" that helped me the most. The live online portion of the class might be helpful if you haven't read the bibles already. The instructors were awesome but it seemed like the target audience were people aiming for 150-155. If I could do it all over again I would also not write in the books. It's helpful to go back and redo problems and trying to hid the circled answer with a pack of gum isn't working very well for me.
I also forgot to mention that their student center is very helpful. I spoke to them yesterday about extending my access for two more test periods and was able to work out a deal.

Thankyou! I have about a year to prepare so hopefully I am at around 165 when I do another practice in the Spring. How often do you guys suggest studying a week?JerryLundegard wrote:You don't need the course so don't sweat. Bibles are very helpful. Just make sure you are drilling a lot while learning. Re: PowerScore LSAT prep
Hi, just joined today. Registered for 1st time LSAT this December and am currently half-way through Logical Reasoning Bible. Also bought the Logical Games Bible and 10 latest Prep tests, but have yet to open either because I find I'm struggling with diagramming and picking the answers which seem to trick most folks. Just when I believe I grasp the concepts, I end up failing at least half the review questions at the end of the chapter.
I have re-studied each chapter and feel stronger each time, but last night, I failed every question at the end of the Weakening Questions chapter. Very frustrated and would greatly appreciate any advice....continue studying.....cancel my registration for December?
I've been out of college for over 20 years, but have been a Paralegal the entire time.....the attorney I assist challenged me to go forward with my long-term dream of becoming an attorney, but I'm beginning to doubt I can make my dream come true since i am not grasping the logical concepts after 2 full weeks of studying.
Thanks - frustrated granny leslie

Re: PowerScore LSAT prep
It's not going to come easy. You're studying is going to be like a roller coaster. For you being out of college for so long its going to be a little tougher. I am in the same boat as you. I graduated college 12 years ago. It's taken me some time but I am slowly learning the concepts. Fatigue sets in quicker than it used to be because I am not used to the intense studying that college students are used to. Someone explained to me that the LSAT is an exam of how badly you want to go to law school.LeslieluvsNillers wrote:Hi, just joined today. @leslie
i wouldn't cancel yet, but if you're not in the neighborhood in a month you'll probably want to think about withdrawing
what's your target score?
undergrad gpa?
career goals?

Re: PowerScore LSAT prep
OP, my diagnostic was similar to yours. Just by drilling and working with Powerscore and MH books on LG and 7sage for review, JUST ON LG ALONE, I gained 10 points. I'm still working through the books and drilling for LR and RC.
I wouldn't recommend just using the books and then going straight on to preptests. While the techniques are great in these books (particularly for PS LG, don't use PS for RC and LR), there is simply not enough practice problems. You have to drill somehow in between your entire schedule. The +10 I had was the effort of applying book materials to drilling, over and over again.

@leslie, I'm kind of in your boat too
Are you finishing all the sections when you do practice tests? I was not, and being out of school for some time made me rethink whole approach. Fundamentally, just was not going to break 160 without working on improving my reading (speed and comprehension) as well as my ability to sit in a library for hours and hours.

So how are you improving your speed and comprehension. I'm only timing myself loosely as I'm still drilling. I'm more worried about accuracy right now but reading comp. is killing me regardless.Cavetold wrote:@leslie, I'm kind of in your boat tooAre you finishing all the sections when you do practice tests? Re: PowerScore LSAT prep
Well, I took 5 practice tests and locked in my "ceiling" at or around 155. It was already pretty clear by the headaches and general disorientation I guess you can call it that I had to work on my stamina. That and a online speed reading course (Iris). It helped me improve my accuracy in RC and am hoping it will lead to completing the 4th passage in due time. I guess I'm answering your question backwards but being strict about timing is something to do soon just so you can get a good azimuth check. I'm taking a more systematic approach to studying even though I haven't even taken a PT in months. My five tests have all been under perfect conditions (at home, quiet). I did a Kaplan proctured exam and dropped back down to 151. So I have a goal under strict at home conditions, then I plan on trying to match it taking it at the library etc.
