CONFUSED about how to study & which Cambridge bundle to buy?

Post by lilahozi » Sun Aug 17, 2014 11:36 pm

Hi,

1)
I've been ramping up studying for the LSAT in hopes of taking it Dec (or Feb '15), and feel like my attempts at studying are like throwing darts blindly at a dartboard.

I started off scoring in the mid-160s and my scores have stayed in that range no matter if I'm 99% concentrated or if I'm taking a test sick and half-asleep. I work substantial hours so I usually do a practice test a day on the weekends, and read the PowerScore books and go over the weekend practice tests over the week (assuming my brain isn't fried from work).

Since my scores aren't improving, I'm concerned that my study habits are not optimal, and I don't want to continue with bad habits. Should I be drilling problems right now and eschewing taking practice tests until later? (I might also use up all the new practice tests quickly).

2) Which Cambridge bundles are the recommended ones to purchase? I went to the Cambridge site and my eyes glazed over from all the bundle options offered.

Thanks!

Yes, drill now and take PTs later. Which PTs you already have changes what bundles you should get. If you have them all or many of them, then just get the LR, LG and RC bundles. Otherwise I would get the Ultimate LSAT Prep Package, Endurance Edition.

I just want to chime in and say that I agree with the above, however DO NOT get the RC bundle. Instead, they have an option to buy old RC sections by PT. Buy these instead, as it will be much better practice for you. The way they sort RC is by topic, which is actually worse than useless because the topic has no relationship with the structure or difficulty of the passages, and also can interfere with your sense of timing.

I can't find the thread at the moment, but a user recently (within the past year) categorized every RC passage by structure, which is akin to LG/LR by game type. If you so choose, practicing passages this way is likely to be a tangible benefit. Absent this, however, I strongly recommend purchasing whole RC sections from the older tests rather than working through them by topic.

I googled "categorized every RC passage by structure" and this came up!

I have tests 58-71. Should I just buy the Cambridge 1-38 Bundle and tests 39-57? Or should I buy Cambridge 1-58?

When I do resume taking PTs?

Thanks.
