Section Order

Post by Irish11 » Wed Aug 06, 2014 3:41 pm

Hi,

I've been doing 2-3 PTs a week for the last month and am encouraged by my fairly consistent scores with a slight upward trend. But I've noticed that whenever the RC section comes last, I do worse than on RC sections that come earlier in the test.

Obviously I need to overcome this, considering I won't be able to control the order on the day of the test. I'm considering manipulating the PT order so that I'm always doing RC last, or adding an extra section of RC after each four-section PT so that it would always be my fifth section, regardless of where the first one falls. What have others here done when faced with this issue?

Thanks!

I think the latter of your two suggested strategies is best. Directly address the issue and build stamina at the same time.

IMO everyone should be doing at least 5 section PTs to build stamina. 4 section PTs aren't realistic. The real game day stress is hightened so there's more stamina needed. I actually worked my way up to 8 section PTs to build stamina during the final push 2 weeks before the exam (take 1-3 days off before the test day if you do end up trying mega sized PTs though, something I wish I had done more of). I did 4 section PTs to study for my first take, but ran into some dragging on the last section of the real exam, so I decided on the retake to address that with 6 section, and eventually 8 section ones.

A side tip: to gauge progress with 5+ section tests , I decided to combine the 4 worst sections to use for my practice test score log. Like I deferred to the worst LG section, worst RC section, and two worst LR sections. Seemed like a fair way to assume the worst from game day jitters/pressure/curveball questions, keeping your progress log as objective as possible.

Good luck!
