What are people using for practice test answer explanations?

Post by lilahozi » Tue Jul 29, 2014 2:32 am

Hi all,

I'm quite new to LSAT prepping, so please excuse me if this question has been addressed already (as I'm sure it has been).

I'm wondering what source(s) people use to find answer explanations to practice/old tests. I've been using the Manhattan LSAT forums, but the long back-and-forth-discussions about the correct answer makes me dizzy, and don't leave me with a better understanding of why the correct answer is the correct answer.

Advice?

For trickier questions, a lot of TLSers have had success posting right here on the LSAT Prep Forum. Good place to get lots of feedback and hence the opportunity to select your preferred approach to the question.

this is just a personal preference and what i found to be most helpful. always just type the question or premise in to a google search bar, and you'll most likely get manhattan lsat prep forums which are amazing imo. then for games, 7sage was a godsend, you can usually find youtube videos of the guy doing explanations.

Did some of y'all even read OP's post? OP specifically states Manhattan has been confusing, yet y'all are providing links as if they've never seen it before and stating what OP already knows...Anyhow, my $.02:

OP, you say that you're new to LSAT prep, so I think that has something to do with why the explanations you've found to date have been...tedious, to say the least. Have you worked through any prep books to get at least a basic understanding of the reasoning in each section? If not, you should start there. If so, which one(s) did you use? I don't think online explanations, particularly for LR, are going to be as helpful if you haven't worked your way through an actual prep book or two. Simply answering practice questions and trying to find explanations when you get one wrong isn't going to cut it. You aren't going to be able to follow the explanation for a question involving conditional reasoning if you don't understand what sufficient and necessary conditions are, or a formal logic question if you don't understand, for example, that most implies some (on this note, PowerScore is excellent for understanding formal logic). So, build your foundation first, before you move on to drilling and taking practice tests. Once you understand the basics, and the vocabulary, you'll find the Manhattan explanations more beneficial (they were a godsend to me when I was reviewing my PT results). Aside from that, as BP Robert recommended, posting in this forum can be very helpful, as can posting in the reputable companies' forums.

I cannot personally speak to online LG explanations, as this section came very naturally to me and I didn't resort to additional resources aside from a couple posts in the PowerScore forum about rule substitution questions, but I've heard wonderful things about 7sage.

Peruse the various guides in this forum, as they'll have links to additional resources and strategies that should help. Just don't give up hope on Manhattan- they really are an excellent resource, and if you get the basics down, I think your searches there will prove more fruitful.

I bought the 7sage full course and he has an explanation for every single question from pt 36-72. He's very meticulous with it all too. I'd recommend it for explanations.
